1 Kings 6, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.

480 years after the Israelites left Egypt, during Solomon's fourth year as king, in the second month, he started building God's house.

2

And the house which king Solomon built for the LORD, the length thereof was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits.

King Solomon built a magnificent house for the LORD. It was impressively large - sixty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and thirty cubits high.

3

And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was the breadth thereof before the house.

The entrance of God's temple was as wide as the temple itself, stretching 20 cubits long. It extended 10 cubits out from the temple, creating a welcoming space before the holy house.

4

And for the house he made windows of narrow lights.

He crafted windows for the house, emitting a soft, slender glow.

5

And against the wall of the house he built chambers round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the oracle: and he made chambers round about:

He lovingly constructed rooms all around the house, both in the temple and the sacred oracle, creating a comforting circle of chambers against the house's walls.

6

The nethermost chamber was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad: for without in the wall of the house he made narrowed rests round about, that the beams should not be fastened in the walls of the house.

The bottom floor of the side rooms was about 7.5 feet wide, the middle floor was 9 feet wide, and the third floor was 10.5 feet wide. He built ledges around the outside of the house's walls, so the beams wouldn't need to be embedded into the walls.

7

And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.

The house was constructed from pre-cut stones, brought to the site ready to use. This ensured that no sound of hammer, axe, or any iron tool echoed within the house during its construction.

8

The door for the middle chamber was in the right side of the house: and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle into the third.

The entrance to the middle floor of side rooms was on the house's right side. They climbed a winding staircase up to the middle floor, then went on from there to the third floor.

9

So he built the house, and finished it; and covered the house with beams and boards of cedar.

With dedication and love, he completed the house, adorning it with sturdy cedar beams and boards, giving it a final touch of perfection.

10

And then he built chambers against all the house, five cubits high: and they rested on the house with timber of cedar.

He lovingly constructed rooms around the entire house, each five cubits tall. They leaned gently against the house, made from the comforting scent of cedar wood.

11

And the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying,

The LORD's message reached Solomon, whispering,

12

Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:

As for this house you are building: if you follow my rules, uphold my decisions, and obey all my commands, I will keep through you the promise I made to your father, David.

13

And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

I will live among my beloved Israelites, never abandoning them.

14

So Solomon built the house, and finished it.

With a heart full of dedication, Solomon constructed the sacred house, completing it with a sigh of fulfillment.

15

And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house, and the walls of the ceiling: and he covered them on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir.

With a heart full of dedication, he crafted the house's walls using cedar boards. He lovingly lined both the floor and the ceiling walls with the same. He then adorned the interior with wood and blanketed the floor with fir planks.

16

And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar: he even built them for it within, even for the oracle, even for the most holy place.

With great care and reverence, he constructed a sacred space within the house, twenty units in length. He used cedar boards for the floor and walls, creating a sanctuary, a divine oracle, a most holy place.

17

And the house, that is, the temple before it, was forty cubits long.

The main hall of the temple, in front of the inner sanctuary, stretched forty cubits in length.

18

And the cedar of the house within was carved with knops and open flowers: all was cedar; there was no stone seen.

Inside the house, intricate carvings of buds and blossoms adorned the cedar walls, so beautifully crafted that not a single stone was visible.

19

And the oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.

With a heart full of reverence, he readied the sacred space within the home, a special place to house the Lord's cherished covenant ark.

20

And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar.

The sacred space at the front was a perfect cube, each side measuring twenty cubits. It was beautifully adorned with pure gold, even the cedar altar was completely covered in it.

21

So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.

With a heart full of devotion, Solomon adorned the temple's interior with pristine gold. He created a golden chain partition before the sacred shrine, covering it entirely in gold, radiating divine warmth and splendor.

22

And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that was by the oracle he overlaid with gold.

He lovingly adorned every inch of the house with gold, until it was completely transformed. Even the sacred altar near the oracle was beautifully covered in gold.

23

And within the oracle he made two cherubims of olive tree, each ten cubits high.

Inside the sacred sanctuary, he crafted two angelic figures from olive wood, each towering at ten cubits high.

24

And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits.

One cherub's wing spanned five cubits, as did the other. From the tip of one wing to the other, it measured a full ten cubits.

25

And the other cherub was ten cubits: both the cherubims were of one measure and one size.

The second angelic figure was also ten units tall; both heavenly beings were identical in size and proportion.

26

The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub.

The two cherubs stood tall, each reaching a majestic height of ten cubits.

27

And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.

He placed the angelic cherubs inside the sanctuary. Their wings, outstretched, touched each wall and met in the center, creating a sense of divine unity and protection within the sacred space.

28

And he overlaid the cherubims with gold.

He lovingly adorned the cherubims with a radiant layer of gold.

29

And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, within and without.

With great passion, he adorned every inch of the house's walls with intricate carvings of cherubs, palm trees, and blooming flowers, both inside and out.

30

And the floors of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without.

He covered the floors of the house with gold, radiating richness in both the inner and the outer rooms.

31

And for the entering of the oracle he made doors of olive tree: the lintel and side posts were a fifth part of the wall.

He crafted the entrance to the sacred space with olive tree doors; the frame and side posts were a significant portion of the wall.

32

The two doors also were of olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees.

Two doors, crafted from olive wood, bore intricate carvings of cherubim, palm trees, and blooming flowers. They were beautifully adorned with a lavish layer of gold, which was also meticulously applied to the cherubim and palm trees.

33

So also made he for the door of the temple posts of olive tree, a fourth part of the wall.

He also crafted doorposts of olive wood for the temple's entrance, making up a quarter of the wall, with such reverence and devotion.

34

And the two doors were of fir tree: the two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.

The two doors, crafted from the fir tree, had two panels each that folded inward, mirroring each other in design and function.

35

And he carved thereon cherubims and palm trees and open flowers: and covered them with gold fitted upon the carved work.

With great passion, he meticulously sculpted cherubs, palm trees, and blooming flowers. He then lovingly adorned them with a layer of pure gold, perfectly fitting it over the intricate carvings.

36

And he built the inner court with three rows of hewed stone, and a row of cedar beams.

With deep devotion, he built the inner courtyard, layering three rows of carefully chiseled stones, topped with a row of fragrant cedar beams.

37

In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of the LORD laid, in the month Zif:

In the fourth year, in the month of Zif, the foundation of the Lord's house was laid, with hearts full of hope and hands full of faith.

38

And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.

In the eleventh year, during Bul - the eighth month, the house was finally complete, in every detail and design. It took him seven long years to build it.
