2 Peter

Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

Simon Peter, a humble servant and messenger of Jesus Christ, sends this message to those who share our precious faith, a faith given to us through the pure goodness of God and our Savior, Jesus Christ.

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

The prophecy didn't just come about by human desire in the past; it was delivered by God's devoted men, deeply inspired by the Holy Spirit.

For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

If, after being freed from the world's corruption through understanding Jesus Christ, they fall back into it and are defeated, their final state is worse than when they started.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

God isn't slow to fulfill His promises, as some might think. Instead, He's patient with us, not wanting anyone to be lost, but desiring everyone to change their ways and seek forgiveness.
