Hosea 5, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
Hear ye this, O priests; and hearken, ye house of Israel; and give ye ear, O house of the king; for judgment is toward you, because ye have been a snare on Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor.
Listen closely, priests, people of Israel, and royal household. Judgment is coming your way because you've set traps in Mizpah and laid nets on Tabor.
And the revolters are profound to make slaughter, though I have been a rebuker of them all.
Those who rebel are deeply committed to causing harm, even though I have consistently corrected them.
I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me: for now, O Ephraim, thou committest whoredom, and Israel is defiled.
I see you, Ephraim, and Israel's actions aren't hidden from me. Ephraim, you've strayed, and Israel is tainted.
They will not frame their doings to turn unto their God: for the spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them, and they have not known the LORD.
They refuse to change their ways and seek God. Seduced by worldly desires, they remain ignorant of the Lord's presence.
And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: therefore shall Israel and Ephraim fall in their iniquity: Judah also shall fall with them.
Israel's arrogance is evident, leading to their downfall due to their wrongdoings. Ephraim too will stumble in their sins. Judah will not escape this fate either.
They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD; but they shall not find him; he hath withdrawn himself from them.
They will search for the Lord with their flocks and herds, but they won't find Him; He has distanced Himself from them.
They have dealt treacherously against the LORD: for they have begotten strange children: now shall a month devour them with their portions.
They've betrayed the Lord, fathering illegitimate children. Now, within a month, they and their portions will be consumed.
Blow ye the cornet in Gibeah, and the trumpet in Ramah: cry aloud at Bethaven, after thee, O Benjamin.
Sound the horn in Gibeah, and the trumpet in Ramah. Let your voices echo in Bethaven, follow your path, oh Benjamin.
Ephraim shall be desolate in the day of rebuke: among the tribes of Israel have I made known that which shall surely be.
Ephraim will be left barren when the day of correction comes. I've revealed to the tribes of Israel the inevitable future.
The princes of Judah were like them that remove the bound: therefore I will pour out my wrath upon them like water.
The leaders of Judah acted as if they could erase boundaries. So, I will unleash my anger on them, like a torrential downpour.
Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, because he willingly walked after the commandment.
Ephraim is burdened and shattered by judgment, because he was determined to follow the commands of men.
Therefore will I be unto Ephraim as a moth, and to the house of Judah as rottenness.
So, I will be to Ephraim like a moth, slowly consuming, and to Judah's house, I'll be like decay, gradually eroding.
When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then went Ephraim to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: yet could he not heal you, nor cure you of your wound.
When Ephraim realized his illness and Judah acknowledged his pain, they sought help from the Assyrian and King Jareb. But, they found no relief or healing for their suffering.
For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him.
I will be like a fierce lion to Ephraim and a young lion to Judah. I will attack and leave, I will snatch away, and no one can save them.
I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.
I'll retreat to my abode, waiting until they realize their wrongs and yearn for my presence. In their hardship, they'll search for me earnestly.
