Galatians 3, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

You foolish Galatians! Who has cast a spell on you? Why have you turned away from the truth, when Jesus Christ crucified was shown so clearly before your very eyes?

2

This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

I just want to understand one thing from you: Did you receive God's Spirit by following religious laws, or by simply believing what you heard about faith?

3

Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Can you be so naive? You started with spiritual faith, do you really think you can achieve perfection through worldly means?

4

Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.

Have all your hardships been for nothing? If indeed they are for nothing.

5

He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

So, the one who gives you His Spirit and performs miracles among you, does he do it because of religious rules or because of faith that is heard and believed?

6

Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

Just like Abraham trusted God wholeheartedly and was recognized as righteous for his faith.

7

Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

Understand this, those who have faith are indeed the spiritual descendants of Abraham.

8

And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

The sacred text, knowing that God would accept all people through their belief, shared this good news with Abraham, saying, "Through you, every nation will receive blessings."

9

So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

Those who have faith are blessed, just like faithful Abraham.

10

For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

Those who rely solely on following religious laws are trapped under a curse. For it is said, anyone who doesn't perfectly adhere to these laws is doomed.

11

But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

It's clear that no one can earn God's approval simply by following laws. Instead, it's those who lead a life of faith who truly find favor in God's eyes.

12

And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.

The law doesn't rely on faith. Instead, those who follow it will find life within its boundaries.

13

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

Christ has rescued us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us. For it's written, anyone hung on a tree is cursed.

14

That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

So that Abraham's blessings may reach all people through Jesus Christ, and by believing, we may experience the Spirit's promised gifts.

15

Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man’s covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.

My dear friends, let me put it in simple terms; even a promise made by a mere human, once it's agreed upon, no one can break or add to it.

16

Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

God made a promise to Abraham and his lineage, specifically. He didn't say this promise was for many descendants, but for one special descendant - Christ.

17

And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

I'm saying this: God's promise, made through Christ, is unbreakable. Even a law introduced 430 years later can't cancel it or make it meaningless.

18

For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

If our blessings come from following rules, then they aren't gifts. But remember, God freely promised these blessings to Abraham.

19

Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

Why do we need the law? It was created to guide us when we stray, until the promised one arrives. This law was established by divine beings through a mediator.

20

Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

A mediator doesn't represent just one party, but God is the ultimate unity.

21

Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

Does God's law contradict His promises? Absolutely not! If a law could grant us life and make us perfect, then indeed, righteousness would come from following that law.

22

But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

The Bible declares we're all sinners, but those who trust in Jesus Christ's promise of salvation through faith will receive it.

23

But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

Before we discovered faith, we were confined by rules, waiting for the revelation of faith to set us free.

24

Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

The law was our guide, leading us to Christ, so that we could find righteousness through faith.

25

But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

Once faith enters our hearts, we no longer need a strict teacher.

26

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

In your belief in Jesus Christ, you all are cherished children of God.

27

For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

All of you who have been baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Him.

28

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

In Jesus's love, your race, status, or gender doesn't matter. We are all equal and united.

29

And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

If you truly belong to Christ, then you are descendants of Abraham, and you are entitled to the blessings promised to him.
