Ruth

Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.

During the time when judges governed, a severe famine struck the land. A man from Bethlehem, along with his wife and two sons, had no choice but to leave their home and seek refuge in the land of Moab.

So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.

Naomi, heart heavy with loss, returned home from Moab, her loyal daughter-in-law Ruth by her side. They arrived in Bethlehem, just as the barley harvest began.

And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house.

She pleaded, "Please, let me pick up what's left after the harvesters." So she did, tirelessly working from dawn till dusk, only resting briefly at home.

And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.

Indeed, I am related to you, but there's someone even closer to you than I am.
