Amos
Read Amos in the King James Version, with a plain-language reading beneath every verse. Here are a few to start with.
From Amos
The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
Amos, a humble shepherd from Tekoa, had visions about Israel during the reigns of Uzziah of Judah and Jeroboam, Joash's son, from Israel. These insights came to him two years before a devastating earthquake.
And ye shall go out at the breaches, every cow at that which is before her; and ye shall cast them into the palace, saith the LORD.
You will break free from your confines, each one of you moving forward in your own path. Then, you will be thrown into a grand place, as the Lord has declared.
But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
Let fairness flow like a river, and integrity surge like a powerful current.
Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:
Can horses gallop on rocky cliffs? Can oxen plow on such terrain? You've twisted justice into bitterness, and the rewards of doing right into poison.
