Matthew 28, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
As the Sabbath ended and dawn broke on a new week, Mary Magdalene and another Mary, filled with sorrow and hope, visited the tomb.
And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
Suddenly, a powerful earthquake shook the earth. The Lord's angel descended from the heavens, effortlessly moved the stone blocking the entrance, and calmly sat on it.
His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
His face shone like a brilliant flash of lightning, and his clothes were as pure and white as fresh snow.
And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
Terrified by his presence, the guards trembled, falling into a state of paralyzing fear as if they were lifeless.
And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
The angel gently reassured the women, "Don't be afraid. I understand you're looking for Jesus, the one who was crucified."
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
He's no longer here, for He has awakened, just as He promised. Come, witness the spot where our Lord once rested.
And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
Hurry, let his followers know he's alive again! He's heading to Galilee and you'll find him there. Remember, I've given you this message.
And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
They left the tomb in a rush, hearts pounding with a mix of fear and immense joy. They sprinted to share the news with his disciples.
And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
As they rushed to share the news with his followers, they unexpectedly encountered Jesus. He greeted them warmly. Overwhelmed with joy and reverence, they fell to his feet, expressing their deep adoration.
Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.
Jesus reassured them, "Don't be scared. Go tell my brothers to head to Galilee. That's where they'll find me."
Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.
As they were leaving, some guards rushed into the city, breathlessly reporting to the high priests everything that had happened.
And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
When the leaders gathered with the elders, they discussed and decided to give a hefty sum of money to the soldiers.
Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.
Claim this, "His followers secretly took Him away under the cover of darkness while we were asleep."
And if this come to the governor’s ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.
If the governor hears of this, don't worry. We'll talk to him and ensure your safety.
So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
They accepted the bribe, following their instructions. This tale has been whispered among the Jews to this very day.
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
The eleven disciples, filled with anticipation, journeyed to a mountain in Galilee, a special place chosen by Jesus.
And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
When they saw him, they were filled with awe and reverence, worshipping him. Yet, a few were clouded with doubt.
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Jesus approached them, expressing with certainty, "I have been granted all authority in both heaven and earth."
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
With love and passion, go out and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Guide them to follow all the lessons I've given you. Remember, I am always with you, until the end of time. Amen.
