Matthew 8, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
As he descended from the lofty mountain, a vast crowd trailed behind him, their hearts filled with awe and anticipation.
And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached, bowing in deep respect, and said, "Master, if you are willing, you have the power to heal me."
And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
With a compassionate touch, Jesus reached out, saying, "I wish it, be purified." Instantly, the man's leprosy vanished.
And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
Jesus gently told him, "Don't tell anyone about this. Just go, show yourself to the priest, and present the offering Moses instructed as your proof."
And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
When Jesus arrived in Capernaum, a desperate centurion approached him, pleading for his help.
And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
Crying out, "Master, my servant is at home, severely suffering from paralysis."
And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
With a gentle voice, Jesus assured him, "I will come and bring healing."
The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
The centurion humbly responded, "Lord, I don't deserve your presence in my humble home. Yet, I believe a single word from you can heal my servant."
For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. When I tell one soldier to go, he goes. When I tell another to come, he comes. When I instruct my servant, he does it.
When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
Hearing this, Jesus was amazed. Turning to his followers, he said, "Truly, I've never seen such strong faith, even in all of Israel."
And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
I tell you this, numerous people from all corners of the earth will join Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the heavenly kingdom, sharing in their joy and peace.
But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
But many who thought the kingdom was theirs by birth will be thrown out into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
Jesus, with a reassuring voice, told the centurion, "Go on, your faith has made it possible." And just like that, his servant was healed instantly.
And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever.
When Jesus entered Peter's home, he was met with the sight of Peter's mother-in-law, frail and burning with fever.
And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.
He gently held her hand, and instantly, her fever broke. Revived, she stood up and began to serve them.
When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
As dusk fell, they brought to him many tormented by demons. With just his words, he expelled the evil spirits and healed all who were unwell.
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
In fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah, He willingly embraced our weaknesses and carried our illnesses with deep compassion and understanding.
Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.
Seeing the vast crowds around him, Jesus, with a sense of urgency, instructed them to move to the other side.
And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
A teacher of the law approached him, promising, "Teacher, I'll follow you wherever you lead."
And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Jesus said, "Even foxes and birds have homes, but I, the Son of Man, have no place to rest."
And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
One of his followers pleaded with him, "Master, please let me first attend to my father's funeral."
But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.
Jesus, with a firm yet compassionate voice, told him, "Walk with me, and let those lost in life take care of their own losses."
And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.
As he stepped onto the boat, his disciples, filled with loyalty and faith, eagerly trailed behind him.
And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
Suddenly, a fierce storm erupted at sea, engulfing the ship in monstrous waves. Yet, amidst the chaos, he slept peacefully.
And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.
His followers rushed to him, shaking him awake, their voices trembling with fear, "Master, help us! We're in danger!"
And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
He asked them, "Why are you scared, you who have such little faith?" Then, he stood up, scolded the winds and the sea, and everything became peacefully calm.
But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
The men were awestruck, wondering, "Who is this man, that even nature itself listens to him!"
And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
When he reached the land of the Gergesenes, he was confronted by two individuals tormented by demons. They emerged from the graves, their ferocity so intense that it made the path impassable for anyone.
And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
In fear, they shouted, "What do you want with us, Jesus, Son of God? Have you come to punish us before it's time?"
And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding.
A distance away, a large group of pigs were peacefully grazing.
So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.
The demons pleaded with him, "If you banish us, let us flee into the group of pigs."
And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.
He told them, "Leave." As they did, they entered a group of pigs. Suddenly, all the pigs rushed down a steep cliff into the sea, tragically drowning.
And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils.
The herdsmen, terrified, fled to the city. They shared everything, including what had happened to the men possessed by demons.
And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts.
The entire town turned out to greet Jesus. But upon seeing him, they pleaded with him to leave their borders.
