Matthew 7, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
Don't judge others, so you won't be judged yourself.
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
The way you judge others will be the way you're judged, and the standard you use will be used for you too.
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Why focus on the tiny flaw in your friend's life, when you're blind to the big mistake in your own?
Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
How can you tell your friend to remove the speck from their eye when you have a log in your own?
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
Stop being a hypocrite. First, deal with your own flaws before criticizing others. Only then can you truly help them.
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
Don't share your sacred gifts with those who won't appreciate them, nor offer your valuable wisdom to those who will disregard it. They might just disrespect it and harm you in return.
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Simply ask, and you'll receive; search, and you'll discover; knock, and the door will open for you.
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Everyone who asks, receives; those who seek, find; and doors open for those who knock.
Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
Which of you, if your child asks for bread, would cruelly give them a stone instead?
Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
Or if your child asks for a fish, would you give them a snake instead?
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
If you, evil as you are, know how to give wonderful gifts to your children, imagine how much more your heavenly Father, in His perfection, is willing to give good things to those who ask Him.
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
Treat others the way you want to be treated, because this is the heart of the Law and the Prophets.
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Choose the narrow path, for the wide and easy road leads to ruin, and many are those who take it.
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
The path to true life is not easy, it's narrow and challenging. Only a handful of people manage to discover it.
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Be cautious of false prophets, who come to you looking as harmless as sheep but inside are ravenous wolves.
Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
You can recognize people by their actions, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit. Would you expect to find grapes growing on a thornbush, or figs on a thistle?
Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
Just like a healthy tree produces good fruit, a rotten tree yields bad fruit.
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
A healthy tree can't produce rotten fruit, just as a damaged tree can't produce good fruit.
Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Any tree that doesn't produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
You'll recognize them by the results of their actions.
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Not everyone who calls me 'Lord, Lord' will find a place in heaven; it's those who truly do the will of my Father in heaven who will find their way there.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
On that day, many will question me, "Master, didn't we speak your truth, banish evil, and perform miracles in your name?"
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Then I will tell them plainly, I never recognized you: leave my presence, you who do wrong.
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Anyone who listens to my teachings and follows them is like a smart person who builds their home on a solid foundation.
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
The storm raged, rain poured, floods rose, and fierce winds battered the house. Yet, it stood strong, unyielding, for its foundation was the solid rock.
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
Anyone who hears my words but doesn't follow them is like a foolish person who builds their house on unstable sand.
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
The rain poured down, the rivers overflowed, and the wind howled, relentlessly attacking the house. It collapsed, and its destruction was immense.
And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
After Jesus finished speaking, the crowd was left in awe of his teachings.
For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
He taught them with a commanding presence, unlike the ordinary teachers.
