Zechariah 13, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.
On that day, a cleansing spring will open for David's family and Jerusalem's residents, washing away their sins and impurities.
And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land.
The day will come, promises the Lord Almighty, when I will erase the memory of false gods from the earth. No longer will they be remembered. I will also rid the land of false prophets and impure spirits.
And it shall come to pass, that when any shall yet prophesy, then his father and his mother that begat him shall say unto him, Thou shalt not live; for thou speakest lies in the name of the LORD: and his father and his mother that begat him shall thrust him through when he prophesieth.
If anyone dares to falsely prophesy, his own parents, who gave him life, will tell him, "You won't survive, for you're lying in God's name." And they will be the ones to end his life when he continues his false prophecies.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the prophets shall be ashamed every one of his vision, when he hath prophesied; neither shall they wear a rough garment to deceive:
On that day, every prophet will feel shame for their false visions. They won't hide behind coarse clothing to trick others.
But he shall say, I am no prophet, I am an husbandman; for man taught me to keep cattle from my youth.
But he will insist, "I'm not a prophet, just a simple farmer. Since my youth, I've been taught by men to care for livestock."
And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.
Someone will ask him, "What are these scars on your hands?" He will reply, "These are the marks of betrayal from those I considered friends."
Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.
Rise, O sword, against my shepherd, the man who is my companion, declares the Lord Almighty. Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will scatter. I will then turn my hand against the little ones.
And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.
The Lord declares, across the whole land, two-thirds will be cut off and die; yet one-third will be left in it.
And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.
I'll guide a portion of you through tough times, purifying you as silver and testing you as gold is tested. You'll reach out to me, and I'll listen. I'll acknowledge you as my own, and you'll recognize me as your God.
