Zechariah 4, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep.
The angel who was speaking to me returned, gently rousing me from my sleep, just as one would awaken a sleeping man.
And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:
He asked, "What do you see?" I replied, "I see a golden candlestick, crowned with a bowl. It has seven glowing lamps, each fed by seven pipes."
And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.
Two olive trees stand guard, one on each side of the bowl, like silent sentinels.
So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord?
So I turned to the angel, my heart pounding with curiosity and asked, "What are these, my guide?"
Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.
The angel who was speaking to me asked, "Don't you know what these represent?" Feeling clueless, I replied, "No, my lord."
Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
He responded to me, saying, "This is God's message to Zerubbabel: It's not about strength or power, but about the spirit of God."
Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.
Who are you, mighty mountain? In front of Zerubbabel, you'll turn into a flat land. He will place the cornerstone amidst joyful cheers, proclaiming, "Blessings, blessings upon it!"
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Then, I felt a powerful message from the Lord wash over me, as if He was speaking directly to my soul.
The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you.
Zerubbabel's hands began this home, and they will complete it. You will then realize that I am sent by the Almighty Lord.
For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.
Who dares to belittle humble beginnings? They will celebrate and witness the progress in the hands of Zerubbabel, guided by the seven eyes of the Lord that watch over the entire world.
Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof?
I turned to him, curiosity burning in my eyes, "What do these two olive trees represent, standing on either side of the candlestick?"
And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves?
I asked him again, filled with curiosity, "What are these two olive branches that pour golden oil through the two golden pipes?"
And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.
He responded, asking, "Don't you know what these are?" I replied, "No, my lord, I don't."
Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the LORD of the whole earth.
He declared, "These two, blessed and chosen, stand faithfully beside the Lord who rules the entire earth."
