Zechariah 3, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.

He revealed to me Joshua, the chief priest, standing in the presence of God's angel, with Satan at his side, ready to oppose him.

2

And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?

With a stern voice, the LORD confronted Satan, "The LORD rebukes you, Satan! The LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebukes you! Isn't this man like a burning stick snatched from the fire?"

3

Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.

Joshua, draped in dirty clothes, stood humbly before the angel.

4

And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.

He turned to the crowd, his voice firm yet compassionate, "Remove his dirty clothes." Then, looking at the man, he said gently, "Your sins are forgiven. I will give you new clothes to wear."

5

And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.

I urged, "Put a clean turban on his head." And so, they set a clean turban on his head and dressed him in fine clothes. All the while, the Lord's angel stood by.

6

And the angel of the LORD protested unto Joshua, saying,

The angel of the LORD passionately expressed to Joshua, saying,

7

Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.

The Lord Almighty declares; if you choose to follow my path and uphold my commands, you will be given authority over my house and my courts. I will grant you the privilege to walk among those who stand by me.

8

Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.

Listen closely, Joshua, you and your companions who serve with you. You are men of awe and wonder. Watch, for I am about to reveal my servant, the BRANCH.

9

For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

Look, I've placed a stone before Joshua, a stone with seven eyes. I, the Lord of all, promise to carve it myself and in a single day, I'll cleanse the land of its sins.

10

In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree.

On that day, declares the Lord Almighty, everyone will invite their neighbor to sit in peace under their vine and fig tree.
