2 Chronicles 31, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
Now when all this was finished, all Israel that were present went out to the cities of Judah, and brake the images in pieces, and cut down the groves, and threw down the high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim also and Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all the children of Israel returned, every man to his possession, into their own cities.
Once everything was done, everyone from Israel who was there went to Judah's cities. They passionately smashed the idols, fervently cut down the sacred groves, and forcefully toppled the high places and altars throughout Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh, until they were all completely destroyed. Then, each person from Israel, filled with a sense of accomplishment, returned to their own cities and their own lives.
And Hezekiah appointed the courses of the priests and the Levites after their courses, every man according to his service, the priests and Levites for burnt offerings and for peace offerings, to minister, and to give thanks, and to praise in the gates of the tents of the LORD.
Hezekiah organized the priests and Levites, assigning each their duties. They were to perform sacrifices, serve, express gratitude, and sing praises at the entrance of the Lord's dwelling.
He appointed also the king’s portion of his substance for the burnt offerings, to wit, for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the set feasts, as it is written in the law of the LORD.
He set aside a portion of the king's wealth for sacred offerings. These offerings were made every morning and evening, on sabbaths, new moons, and special festivals, as directed by God's law.
Moreover he commanded the people that dwelt in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites, that they might be encouraged in the law of the LORD.
He urged those living in Jerusalem to support the priests and Levites, to inspire them in following God's laws.
And as soon as the commandment came abroad, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of corn, wine, and oil, and honey, and of all the increase of the field; and the tithe of all things brought they in abundantly.
As soon as the order was given, the people of Israel generously brought their first harvest of grain, wine, oil, honey, and all their field produce. They also gave a tenth of everything they had, and they did so with great abundance.
And concerning the children of Israel and Judah, that dwelt in the cities of Judah, they also brought in the tithe of oxen and sheep, and the tithe of holy things which were consecrated unto the LORD their God, and laid them by heaps.
The people of Israel and Judah, living in Judah's cities, faithfully gave a tenth of their oxen and sheep. They also offered a tenth of their sacred items, dedicated to the Lord their God, and piled them up in heaps.
In the third month they began to lay the foundation of the heaps, and finished them in the seventh month.
They began laying out the heaps in the third month and finished in the seventh month.
And when Hezekiah and the princes came and saw the heaps, they blessed the LORD, and his people Israel.
When Hezekiah and the leaders saw the abundant blessings, they were overwhelmed with gratitude towards God and His chosen people, Israel.
Then Hezekiah questioned with the priests and the Levites concerning the heaps.
Hezekiah, filled with curiosity, engaged in a heartfelt discussion with the priests and Levites about the mysterious piles.
And Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok answered him, and said, Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat, and have left plenty: for the LORD hath blessed his people; and that which is left is this great store.
Azariah, the head priest from Zadok's lineage, responded with gratitude. He said, "Ever since our people started bringing offerings to God's house, we've been blessed with more than enough food. God has truly blessed us, and the surplus we have is a testament to His generosity."
Then Hezekiah commanded to prepare chambers in the house of the LORD; and they prepared them,
Hezekiah ordered the creation of rooms in God's house, and so they were lovingly made.
And brought in the offerings and the tithes and the dedicated things faithfully: over which Cononiah the Levite was ruler, and Shimei his brother was the next.
With sincere hearts, they faithfully presented their offerings, tithes, and sacred gifts. Cononiah the Levite, a trusted leader, oversaw this, with his brother Shimei standing by his side.
And Jehiel, and Azaziah, and Nahath, and Asahel, and Jerimoth, and Jozabad, and Eliel, and Ismachiah, and Mahath, and Benaiah, were overseers under the hand of Cononiah and Shimei his brother, at the commandment of Hezekiah the king, and Azariah the ruler of the house of God.
Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismachiah, Mahath, and Benaiah, were all trusted leaders. They served under Cononiah and his brother Shimei, following the orders of King Hezekiah and Azariah, the head of God's house.
And Kore the son of Imnah the Levite, the porter toward the east, was over the freewill offerings of God, to distribute the oblations of the LORD, and the most holy things.
Kore, Imnah's son and the eastern gatekeeper, was entrusted with God's voluntary gifts. He was responsible for distributing the Lord's offerings and the most sacred items with great reverence and devotion.
And next him were Eden, and Miniamin, and Jeshua, and Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah, in the cities of the priests, in their set office, to give to their brethren by courses, as well to the great as to the small:
Beside him stood Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah. These were the priests in their cities, faithfully serving their brothers, treating all equally, from the greatest to the least.
Beside their genealogy of males, from three years old and upward, even unto every one that entereth into the house of the LORD, his daily portion for their service in their charges according to their courses;
They also gave a daily portion to every male listed in the family records, from three years old and up, and to everyone who entered the Lord's house for his daily service, according to his duties and division.
Both to the genealogy of the priests by the house of their fathers, and the Levites from twenty years old and upward, in their charges by their courses;
In the lineage of priests, traced back to their ancestors, and the Levites, who were at least twenty years old, each had specific duties according to their roles.
And to the genealogy of all their little ones, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, through all the congregation: for in their set office they sanctified themselves in holiness:
The register included every child, wife, son, and daughter in their whole community, for they had faithfully committed themselves to purity in their sacred roles.
Also of the sons of Aaron the priests, which were in the fields of the suburbs of their cities, in every several city, the men that were expressed by name, to give portions to all the males among the priests, and to all that were reckoned by genealogies among the Levites.
The sons of Aaron, the priests who lived in the outskirts of their towns, were tasked with a special duty. Each one, known by name, was responsible for distributing portions to all the male priests and those Levites recognized by their lineage.
And thus did Hezekiah throughout all Judah, and wrought that which was good and right and truth before the LORD his God.
Hezekiah, across all of Judah, passionately pursued goodness, righteousness, and truth, always in the sight of his God, the LORD.
And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.
In every task he undertook, whether serving God, following the law, or obeying commandments, he pursued it passionately, seeking God wholeheartedly, and he thrived.
