2 Chronicles 4, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

Moreover he made an altar of brass, twenty cubits the length thereof, and twenty cubits the breadth thereof, and ten cubits the height thereof.

He crafted a grand altar from brass, twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide, and ten cubits tall.

2

Also he made a molten sea of ten cubits from brim to brim, round in compass, and five cubits the height thereof; and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.

He crafted a magnificent, circular metal sea, ten cubits across and five cubits high. A thirty cubit line could encircle it completely.

3

And under it was the similitude of oxen, which did compass it round about: ten in a cubit, compassing the sea round about. Two rows of oxen were cast, when it was cast.

Beneath it, there was a design resembling oxen, encircling it completely. For every cubit, there were ten oxen, forming a ring around the sea. Two layers of these oxen were molded at the time of its creation.

4

It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward.

Perched atop twelve sturdy oxen, each trio faced a different direction - north, west, south, and east. Above them, the sea was positioned, their backsides hidden from view.

5

And the thickness of it was an handbreadth, and the brim of it like the work of the brim of a cup, with flowers of lilies; and it received and held three thousand baths.

Its edge was as thick as a hand's width, and its rim was as delicately crafted as the edge of a cup, adorned with lily designs. It could contain a massive three thousand baths.

6

He made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them: such things as they offered for the burnt offering they washed in them; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.

He lovingly crafted ten basins, placing half on each side, for cleansing the offerings meant for the sacred fire. However, only the priests had the privilege to purify themselves in the sea.

7

And he made ten candlesticks of gold according to their form, and set them in the temple, five on the right hand, and five on the left.

With a heart full of reverence, he crafted ten golden candlesticks, each one a masterpiece. He lovingly placed them in the sacred temple, five gracing the right side, and five illuminating the left.

8

He made also ten tables, and placed them in the temple, five on the right side, and five on the left. And he made an hundred basons of gold.

With great care, he crafted ten tables, setting them lovingly within the sacred temple. Five were placed to the right, five to the left, creating a sense of balance and harmony. He also forged a hundred golden bowls, each one a testament to his devotion.

9

Furthermore he made the court of the priests, and the great court, and doors for the court, and overlaid the doors of them with brass.

He lovingly crafted the priests' courtyard and the grand courtyard, creating doors for it, and passionately adorned them with brass.

10

And he set the sea on the right side of the east end, over against the south.

He placed the sea to the right of the east, facing the warmth of the south.

11

And Huram made the pots, and the shovels, and the basons. And Huram finished the work that he was to make for king Solomon for the house of God;

Huram, with dedication and care, crafted the pots, shovels, and basins. Completing his task for King Solomon, he poured his heart into every piece for the house of God.

12

To wit, the two pillars, and the pommels, and the chapiters which were on the top of the two pillars, and the two wreaths to cover the two pommels of the chapiters which were on the top of the pillars;

Simply put, it refers to the two towering pillars, their decorative tops, and the two ornate coverings that adorned the very top of these pillars.

13

And four hundred pomegranates on the two wreaths; two rows of pomegranates on each wreath, to cover the two pommels of the chapiters which were upon the pillars.

Two wreaths bore four hundred pomegranates, each adorned with two rows of these fruits, beautifully covering the tops of the pillars.

14

He made also bases, and lavers made he upon the bases;

He lovingly crafted stands and on those stands, he skillfully fashioned basins.

15

One sea, and twelve oxen under it.

A single vast metal basin, the Sea, supported by a dozen sturdy oxen.

16

The pots also, and the shovels, and the fleshhooks, and all their instruments, did Huram his father make to king Solomon for the house of the LORD of bright brass.

Huram, the master craftsman, lovingly crafted pots, shovels, fleshhooks, and other tools from gleaming brass for King Solomon, all for the glory of God's house.

17

In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zeredathah.

In the flatlands of Jordan, the king molded them, within the earthy terrain nestled between Succoth and Zeredathah.

18

Thus Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance: for the weight of the brass could not be found out.

Solomon crafted countless sacred items, so vast that the weight of the brass used was beyond measure.

19

And Solomon made all the vessels that were for the house of God, the golden altar also, and the tables whereon the shewbread was set;

With great devotion, Solomon crafted every sacred item for God's house, including the golden altar and the tables for the ceremonial bread.

20

Moreover the candlesticks with their lamps, that they should burn after the manner before the oracle, of pure gold;

The golden candlesticks and their lamps, of pure gold, were to shine brightly in front of the inner sanctuary, as prescribed.

21

And the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs, made he of gold, and that perfect gold;

He crafted the flowers, lamps, and tongs from the purest, most flawless gold, each piece radiating with divine beauty.

22

And the snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the censers, of pure gold: and the entry of the house, the inner doors thereof for the most holy place, and the doors of the house of the temple, were of gold.

The gold trimmers, bowls, spoons, and incense burners shone brightly. The entrance to the sacred house, its innermost doors leading to the holiest place, and the temple doors, all gleamed with pure gold.
