2 Corinthians 6, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.

As partners in God's work, we passionately urge you not to take His divine kindness for granted.

2

(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

He assures, "I've heard you when you needed me, and I've helped you on your day of deliverance. Remember, now is the perfect time; now is your day of salvation."

3

Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed:

We put no obstacle in anyone's way in anything we do, so that no one can find fault with our spiritual service.

4

But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,

In everything we do, we strive to serve God faithfully, enduring hardships, needs, and distress with patience and resilience.

5

In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings;

Through beatings and jail time, amidst riots and hard work, during sleepless nights and periods of fasting;

6

By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned,

Through genuine purity, insightful knowledge, enduring patience, heartfelt kindness, the divine guidance of the Holy Spirit, and sincere love.

7

By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,

Through the truth spoken, by God's mighty strength, and protected by the shield of righteousness, both right and left.

8

By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true;

Through respect and disrespect, through praise and criticism: seen as tricksters, yet we remain truthful.

9

As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;

Though unseen, we are recognized; though we seem to perish, we thrive; though disciplined, we are not destroyed.

10

As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

Though we may feel sadness, we always find joy; we may lack wealth, but we enrich others; we may own nothing, yet we have everything.

11

O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged.

Dear Corinthians, we speak to you openly, our hearts filled with immense love for you.

12

Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own bowels.

It's not our love for you that is held back; it's your own affection for us that is held back.

13

Now for a recompence in the same, (I speak as unto my children,) be ye also enlarged.

In return for all this, my dear children, I ask you to open your hearts wider.

14

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Don't tie yourself to those who don't share your beliefs. Can good really mix with bad? Can light truly blend with darkness?

15

And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

How can Christ agree with evil? Or how can a believer share common ground with a non-believer?

16

And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

How can God's sacred home coexist with false idols? Remember, you are the living home of God. As God promised, "I will live and move within you. I will be your God, and you will be my people."

17

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

Separate yourself from them, says the Lord. Don't engage with what's impure, and I will welcome you.

18

And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

I will be your loving Father, and you will be my cherished children, promises the Almighty Lord.
