Ezekiel 32, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
And it came to pass in the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, in the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
On the first day of the twelfth month, in the twelfth year, I felt a profound message from the Lord resonate within me.
Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou art like a young lion of the nations, and thou art as a whale in the seas: and thou camest forth with thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers.
Mourn, human, for the Pharaoh of Egypt. Tell him, he's like a brave lion among nations, a giant whale in the seas. He emerged with his rivers, stirring the waters, polluting their purity.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will therefore spread out my net over thee with a company of many people; and they shall bring thee up in my net.
The Lord God declares, "I will spread my net over you with a great crowd of peoples, and they will haul you up in my net."
Then will I leave thee upon the land, I will cast thee forth upon the open field, and will cause all the fowls of the heaven to remain upon thee, and I will fill the beasts of the whole earth with thee.
I will abandon you to the wilderness, casting you out into the open. The birds of the sky will descend upon you, and the creatures of the earth will feast on you.
And I will lay thy flesh upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with thy height.
I will spread your flesh across the mountains and fill the valleys with your remains.
I will also water with thy blood the land wherein thou swimmest, even to the mountains; and the rivers shall be full of thee.
I will drench the land you roam with your blood, reaching even the mountains; the rivers will overflow with your presence.
And when I shall put thee out, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light.
When I cast you away, the skies will mourn, their stars shrouded in darkness. The sun will hide behind a cloud, and the moon will withhold her glow.
All the bright lights of heaven will I make dark over thee, and set darkness upon thy land, saith the Lord GOD.
I, the Lord God, promise to dim all the radiant lights in the sky above you and plunge your land into darkness.
I will also vex the hearts of many people, when I shall bring thy destruction among the nations, into the countries which thou hast not known.
I will stir deep distress in many hearts, as I spread your downfall among nations, even those unfamiliar to you.
Yea, I will make many people amazed at thee, and their kings shall be horribly afraid for thee, when I shall brandish my sword before them; and they shall tremble at every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of thy fall.
Indeed, I will leave many appalled at you, and their rulers will be terrified on your account. When I brandish my sword before them, they will shudder in fear, each one concerned for their own survival, on the day of your downfall.
For thus saith the Lord GOD; The sword of the king of Babylon shall come upon thee.
The Lord God declares, "You will feel the sting of the Babylonian king's sword."
By the swords of the mighty will I cause thy multitude to fall, the terrible of the nations, all of them: and they shall spoil the pomp of Egypt, and all the multitude thereof shall be destroyed.
The powerful will bring down your vast numbers, the fearsome among nations, all of them. They will shatter Egypt's grandeur, and its entire population will be devastated.
I will destroy also all the beasts thereof from beside the great waters; neither shall the foot of man trouble them any more, nor the hoofs of beasts trouble them.
I will wipe out every creature near the vast oceans; no longer will they be disturbed by human footsteps or animal hooves.
Then will I make their waters deep, and cause their rivers to run like oil, saith the Lord GOD.
Then I will let their waters settle and make their rivers run smooth as oil, with no one left to stir them, promises the Lord God.
When I shall make the land of Egypt desolate, and the country shall be destitute of that whereof it was full, when I shall smite all them that dwell therein, then shall they know that I am the LORD.
When I strip Egypt of its abundance, leaving it barren, and strike down its inhabitants, they will truly realize that I am the Lord.
This is the lamentation wherewith they shall lament her: the daughters of the nations shall lament her: they shall lament for her, even for Egypt, and for all her multitude, saith the Lord GOD.
This is the deep sorrow they will express for her: the daughters of all nations will mourn for her. They will grieve for Egypt and all her people, declares the Lord God.
It came to pass also in the twelfth year, in the fifteenth day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
In the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me:
Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, even her, and the daughters of the famous nations, unto the nether parts of the earth, with them that go down into the pit.
Cry out, human, for the many in Egypt, bring them low, including her and the daughters of renowned nations, to the depths of the earth, alongside those who descend into the abyss.
Whom dost thou pass in beauty? go down, and be thou laid with the uncircumcised.
Who can match your beauty? Go down and lie among the uncircumcised.
They shall fall in the midst of them that are slain by the sword: she is delivered to the sword: draw her and all her multitudes.
They will fall among those slain by the sword. She is handed over to the sword; drag her away with all her many followers.
The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword.
The powerful and brave will speak to him from the depths of hell, along with his allies: they have come down, they lie among the uncircumcised, slain by the sword.
Asshur is there and all her company: his graves are about him: all of them slain, fallen by the sword:
Asshur and her companions are present, surrounded by their graves. They've all been tragically killed, victims of brutal warfare.
Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is round about her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused terror in the land of the living.
Their tombs lie in the depths of the pit, surrounded by their fallen comrades, all victims of the sword, the very ones who once spread terror in the world of the living.
There is Elam and all her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which are gone down uncircumcised into the nether parts of the earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit.
Elam and her people, all fallen in battle, lie in their graves. They descended, unclean, into the depths of the earth, their terror once echoing in the land of the living. Now, they carry their shame into the abyss.
They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her graves are round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: he is put in the midst of them that be slain.
In the heart of the fallen, they prepared a resting place for her, surrounded by countless others. Their graves encircle him, all victims of the sword, uncircumcised. Even though they once spread fear among the living, they now carry their disgrace into the depths of the grave. He is placed among the defeated.
There is Meshech, Tubal, and all her multitude: her graves are round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living.
Meshech, Tubal, and their vast armies lie buried, their graves encircling him. Despite their fearsome reputation among the living, they all fell to the sword, their uncircumcised state a testament to their end.
And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, which are gone down to hell with their weapons of war: and they have laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their bones, though they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living.
They must not join the fallen mighty, the unclean who descended into hell armed for battle. Their swords rest beneath their heads, but their sins cling to their bones. Even though they once instilled fear in the living, their wrongdoings remain.
Yea, thou shalt be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shalt lie with them that are slain with the sword.
Indeed, you will find yourself shattered among those who are uninitiated, lying alongside those who have fallen by the blade.
There is Edom, her kings, and all her princes, which with their might are laid by them that were slain by the sword: they shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with them that go down to the pit.
Edom, her rulers, and all her leaders, once mighty, now lay fallen by the sword. They will rest with the dishonored and those who descend into the grave.
There be the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Zidonians, which are gone down with the slain; with their terror they are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to the pit.
The northern leaders and all the Zidonians, who fell in battle, are now humbled. Their power, once terrifying, is now their shame. They lie defeated, unceremoniously among the fallen, sharing the disgrace of those who descend into the grave.
Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all his multitude, even Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword, saith the Lord GOD.
Pharaoh will see them and take comfort over all his vast army: Pharaoh himself and all his army, slain by the sword, declares the Lord God.
For I have caused my terror in the land of the living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that are slain with the sword, even Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.
I've instilled fear in the realm of the living. The fallen, including Pharaoh and his followers, will rest among the ungodly, declares the Lord God.
