Genesis 1, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
At the start, with love and power, God crafted the sky and the land.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
The world was shapeless, empty, shrouded in darkness. Yet, God's Spirit gently stirred the surface of the vast waters.
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
With a voice full of authority and love, God declared, "Let there be light." And just like that, a radiant glow filled the universe.
And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
God looked upon the light, felt its goodness, and separated it from the darkness.
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
God named the brightness as Day, and the shadows as Night. Thus, from dusk till dawn, the very first day was born.
And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
God passionately declared, "Let a barrier rise amidst the waters, separating water from water."
And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
With a divine touch, God crafted the sky, separating the waters below from those above, and so it was.
And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
God named the sky 'Heaven'. As dusk turned to dawn, the second day was born.
And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
God commanded, "May the waters beneath the sky unite in one place, and let the dry land surface." And it happened just like that.
And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
God named the dry terrain Earth, and the collected waters he named Seas. Seeing this, God felt a deep satisfaction.
And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
With a loving command, God urged the earth to sprout with lush green grass, to bear herbs that carry seeds, and to grow fruitful trees, each producing fruit of its own kind, with seeds within. And just like that, the earth obeyed.
And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
The earth blossomed with lush grass and plants, each bearing its own unique seeds. Trees sprouted, bearing fruits filled with seeds of their own kind. God, witnessing this beautiful growth, felt a deep satisfaction, knowing it was all good.
And the evening and the morning were the third day.
As dusk gave way to dawn, the third day came to life.
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
With a commanding voice, God declared, "Let the sky be filled with lights to separate day from night. Let these lights guide us, marking the changing seasons, days, and years."
And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
Let them shine as beacons in the vast sky, illuminating the earth with their glow. And so, it happened.
And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
God crafted two magnificent lights; the brighter one to govern the day, and the softer one to preside over the night. He also sprinkled the sky with stars.
And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
God lovingly placed them in the vast sky above, to shine their light upon our earth.
And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
They were there to rule over the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. Seeing His work, God felt a deep satisfaction, knowing it was good.
And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
As dusk fell and dawn broke, the fourth day came to a close.
And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
And God declared, "Let the waters teem with life, with creatures that swim and birds that soar in the vast sky above."
And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
With a heart full of love, God crafted the majestic whales and all creatures that swim, each unique and abundant in the waters. He also fashioned every bird that soars in the sky. Seeing His creation, God felt a deep sense of satisfaction, knowing it was all good.
And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
God lovingly blessed them, gently urging, "Grow, multiply, and fill the seas with life, let birds increase across the earth."
And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
As the sun set and rose again, the fifth day came to a close.
And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
With a loving command, God asked the earth to give birth to all forms of life, each according to its kind. From the humblest insect to the mightiest beast, and it happened just as He wished.
And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
God lovingly crafted each creature on earth, from the mightiest beast to the humblest cattle, and even the smallest crawling critter, each according to its own unique design. Seeing His creation, God felt a deep sense of satisfaction, knowing it was all good.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
God passionately declared, "Let's create humans to be like us. They'll rule over the sea creatures, birds, livestock, the earth itself, and every creature that crawls upon it."
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
In the reflection of His own divine essence, God lovingly crafted humanity. He shaped them as man and woman, a mirror of His own image.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
God lovingly blessed them, saying, "Grow, multiply, and fill the earth, and bring it under your control. Rule over the sea creatures, birds, and all living things on earth."
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
God lovingly declared, "See, I've gifted you all seed-bearing plants and fruit trees on earth. They are yours to consume and nourish your body."
And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
I've gifted all creatures on land, birds in the sky, and every living thing that crawls on earth, with the bounty of green plants for sustenance. And so, it happened.
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
God looked upon all He had crafted, and felt a deep satisfaction. It was truly beautiful. Thus, the sixth day dawned and dusked.
