Romans 1, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
Paul, a humble follower of Jesus Christ, chosen to spread God's good news, dedicated solely to His divine message.
(Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
He had already made a promise through His prophets in the sacred texts.
Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
About his son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who was born as a human descendant of King David.
And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
Proclaimed as God's Son, empowered by a spirit of purity, affirmed through rising from the dead.
By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
Through Him, we've received grace and the calling of apostles, to bring people of all nations to the obedience that comes from faith, all for His name.
Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:
You too are among those chosen by Jesus Christ.
To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
To everyone in Rome, cherished by God and chosen to be holy: May you receive kindness and tranquility from God, our Father, and Jesus Christ, our Lord.
First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.
I'm deeply grateful to God, through Jesus Christ, for each one of you. Your faith is so strong, it's being talked about all over the world.
For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;
God is my witness, I serve Him passionately through His Son's teachings. Know this, you're always in my unending prayers.
Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.
Praying earnestly, hoping that God will finally grant me a successful journey to meet you.
For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;
I deeply yearn to meet you, so I can share a spiritual blessing with you, to strengthen your faith.
That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.
So that we may find solace in our shared belief, both yours and mine.
Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.
Dear friends, I don't want you to be unaware that I've tried many times to visit you. My intention was to share blessings with you, just as I have with others. But until now, circumstances have prevented me.
I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.
I owe a debt to everyone, to Greeks and to those who are not Greeks, to the wise and to the foolish.
So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.
With all the passion within me, I am eager to share the good news with you in Rome.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
I proudly embrace the teachings of Christ, for they are God's powerful gift of salvation to all who believe - first to the Jew, then to the Greek.
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
In it, God's fairness is unveiled, growing from one act of trust to another. As it's said, those who are just will thrive through their faith.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
God's anger from above is unleashed on all human wickedness and wrongdoings, especially those who twist the truth for their own unjust gains.
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
What can be known about God is plain to them, for God has shown it to them.
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Even though we can't see God Himself, His unseen qualities have been plain to see in the world around us ever since its creation. His eternal power and divinity are evident in all He has made, so people have no excuse.
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Despite knowing God, they failed to honor Him or express gratitude. Instead, their thinking became empty and futile, and their foolish hearts were plunged into darkness.
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Claiming to be wise, they became fools.
And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
They traded the majestic, pure image of God for likenesses of flawed humans, birds, beasts, and insects.
Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
So God handed them over to the lusts of their hearts, to impurity, to dishonor their own bodies with one another.
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Who distorted God's truth into falsehood, and chose to adore and serve creation more than the Creator, who is eternally blessed. Amen.
For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
Because of this, God handed them over to shameful passions. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.
And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
In the same way, men abandoned natural relations with women and burned with lust for one another. Men did shameful things with other men, and received in themselves the penalty their wrongdoing deserved.
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
As they chose to forget God, He handed them over to a depraved mind, leading them to do what ought never to be done.
Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Overwhelmed by all forms of wrongdoing, sexual immorality, evil, greed, and spite; consumed by jealousy, murder, conflict, deception, and malice; spreading rumors,
Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Those who gossip, despise God, act spitefully, show arrogance, brag, create harmful things, and disobey their parents.
Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
Lacking wisdom, they break sacred promises, devoid of love, unyielding and heartless.
Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
They know God's judgment, that those who do such things deserve death. Yet they not only continue to do them, but also take pleasure in others who do the same.
