Romans 12, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

I urge you, my friends, with all the compassion of God, to dedicate your lives to Him. Live purely and pleasingly, for this is a sensible way to serve God.

2

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Don't let the world shape you into its mold. Instead, let your mind be refreshed and changed, so you can understand and embrace what is truly good, pleasing, and perfect in God's eyes.

3

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

With the kindness God has shown me, I urge everyone to not think too highly of themselves. Instead, be humble and have faith, as God has given each of us our own unique amount of belief.

4

For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:

Just like our body has many parts, each with a different function, we too, in unity, have different roles to play.

5

So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

In our diversity, we unite as one in Christ's love, each of us interconnected and essential to one another.

6

Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

We've each been given unique gifts through divine grace. If your gift is prophecy, use it in line with your faith.

7

Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;

If you're called to serve, serve passionately; if you're meant to teach, focus on teaching.

8

Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

Encourage others passionately, give generously and sincerely, lead with dedication, and show mercy with a joyful heart.

9

Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

Love genuinely and deeply. Hate all that is bad and hold tightly to all that is good.

10

Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

Treat each other with kindness and love as if you were siblings; always put others before yourself in respect and honor.

11

Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

Never let your zeal fade; be passionate in spirit, and devoted in serving the Lord.

12

Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

Find joy in hope; stay strong during tough times; never stop praying.

13

Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.

Generously meeting the needs of the faithful; always welcoming others with open arms.

14

Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

Show kindness to those who mistreat you; respond with blessings, not harsh words.

15

Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

Celebrate joyfully with those who are happy, and share the sorrow of those who are in tears.

16

Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

Treat everyone equally, regardless of their status. Don't chase after grandeur, but humble yourself to understand those less fortunate. Don't be arrogant, thinking you know it all.

17

Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

Never repay anyone with hatred for their wrongdoings. Always act with integrity and honesty, visible to all.

18

If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Do your best to live in harmony with everyone, if it's within your power.

19

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

My dear friends, don't seek revenge; instead, step aside and leave room for God's wrath. Remember, it is written, "Vengeance is Mine; I will repay," says the Lord.

20

Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

If your enemy is hungry, give them food; if they're thirsty, offer them water. By doing this, you'll make them feel the heat of their actions.

21

Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Don't let evil conquer you, instead conquer evil with kindness.
