Proverbs 2, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
Dear child, if you truly embrace my teachings and keep my rules close to your heart;
So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
Listen closely to wisdom and open your heart to truly understand.
Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
Indeed, if you passionately seek wisdom and earnestly call out for insight.
If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
If you pursue wisdom with the same passion as hunting for silver or hidden treasures,
Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
Once you truly grasp the awe-inspiring power of God, you'll unlock the wisdom He offers.
For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
The Lord generously shares wisdom, His words are a fountain of knowledge and insight.
He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
He stores profound wisdom for the good-hearted; He is a protective shield for those who choose to live righteously.
He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
He lovingly guides the righteous, safeguarding their journey with care.
Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.
Then, you'll truly grasp what's fair, just, and balanced, indeed, every path leading to goodness.
When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
When wisdom finds a home in your heart, and knowledge sweetly satisfies your soul.
Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
Wisdom will protect you, knowledge will guide you.
To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;
To save you from the path of the wicked, from the man who spews harmful words.
Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
Those who abandon the road of righteousness, choose to wander in the shadows of evil.
Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
Those who find joy in doing wrong and take pleasure in the twisted ways of the wicked;
Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:
Those who follow twisted paths and stubbornly stray from the right way.
To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
To save you from the allure of the forbidden woman, the adulteress who uses sweet words to seduce you.
Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
She who abandons the husband of her youth and forgets her sacred covenant with God.
For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.
Her home is a gateway to demise, and her ways lead to the departed.
None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.
Those who venture towards her never come back, nor do they grasp the essence of life.
That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.
So you can follow the footsteps of the virtuous and stay on the trail of those who do right.
For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
Those who are righteous will live peacefully in the land, and the blameless will always stay there.
But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
Those who choose evil will be removed from this world, and those who break the rules will be completely eliminated.
