John 14, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
Don't let worry consume you. Have faith in God, and trust in me as well.
In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
In our Heavenly Father's home, there's room for everyone. If it wasn't true, I'd let you know. I'm heading there now to get your space ready.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
If I leave to set up a home for you, trust that I'll return to bring you with me; so you can always be where I am.
And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
You know where I'm headed, and you know how to get there.
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
Thomas asked Him, "Lord, we don't know where you're going. How can we possibly understand the path?"
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Jesus told him, "I am the path, the reality, and the essence of life. No one can reach the Father except through me."
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
If you truly knew me, you would also know my Father. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him.
Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
Philip pleaded with Him, "Lord, just let us see the Father, and we'll be content."
Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
Jesus asked Philip, "After all this time with me, don't you know me yet? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. So, why do you still ask to see the Father?"
Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
Don't you trust that I am one with God, and God is within me? The words I share with you aren't just my own, but come from God living within me, guiding my actions.
Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
Trust in my words when I say, I am one with the Father, and He is one with me. If not, let my actions convince you of this truth.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Truly, I assure you, if you have faith in me, you'll be able to do the things I do, and even more, because I'm returning to my Father.
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Whatever you ask for, in my name, I will grant it, so that through the Son, the Father's glory may shine.
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
If you request anything with faith in my name, I promise to fulfill it.
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
If you truly cherish me, honor my teachings.
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
I'll ask our Father, and He will provide you with a lasting source of solace, a Comforter to stay with you eternally.
Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
The Truth's Spirit, unseen and unknown to the world, is with you and within you, because you recognize and accept it.
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
I will never abandon you in your sorrow; I promise to return to you.
Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
Soon, the world won't see me, but you will because my life ensures yours too.
At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
On that day, you'll realize that I exist within God, you exist within me, and I exist within you.
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
If you follow my teachings and keep them close to your heart, it shows your love for me. And those who love me will be loved by my Father. I too will love them and reveal myself to them.
Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
Judas, not the traitor, asked Jesus, "Lord, why do you only reveal yourself to us and not to everyone else?"
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
Jesus replied, "If someone truly loves me, they'll honor my teachings. My Father will then love them, and we will make a special place in our hearts for them."
He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.
If you don't love me, you won't follow my teachings. And remember, these words aren't just mine, they're from the Father who sent me.
These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
I've shared these words with you while I'm still here with you.
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
The Helper, the Holy Spirit sent by God, will guide you, remind you of my teachings, and fill your heart with understanding.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
I'm leaving you with a gift - my own peace. It's not the temporary kind the world offers. So, don't let your heart be weighed down with worry or fear.
Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
You've heard me say, I'm leaving but will return to you. If you truly love me, you'd be happy because I'm going to my Father, who is greater than me.
And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.
I've shared this with you in advance, so when it happens, your faith may be strengthened.
Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
From now on, our conversations will be brief. The ruler of this world is coming, but he has no power over me.
But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
So everyone realizes how deeply I love my Father, just as He instructed me, I act accordingly. Now, let's get up and move forward.
