John 17, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
Jesus, with a heartfelt gaze towards the heavens, said, "Father, the time has come. Honor your Son, so I can honor you."
As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
You've granted him authority over all people, so he can offer everlasting life to those you've entrusted to him.
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Eternal life is simply this: to truly know and recognize you, the one and only God, and Jesus Christ, whom you sent to us.
I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
I've honored you here on earth, completing the task you entrusted to me.
And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
Dear Father, honor me now with your presence, the same honor I had with you before the world began.
I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
I've revealed your name to the people you chose for me from the world. They were always yours, and you entrusted them to me. They have faithfully followed your teachings.
Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.
Now they understand that everything you've gifted me comes from you.
For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
I've shared your words with them, and they've embraced them. They now truly understand that I am from you, and they believe that you sent me.
I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
I passionately plead for those you've entrusted to me, not for everyone, but specifically for them, because they belong to you.
And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
Everything I have is yours, and all you have is mine. I find my glory in them.
And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
Now, I'm leaving this world, but they remain. Dear God, protect those you've entrusted to me, let them unite in your name, just as we are united.
While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
While I walked among them on earth, I protected them in your name. The ones you entrusted to me, I guarded. None of them were lost, except the one destined to be lost, fulfilling the prophecy.
And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
Now, I return to you. I share these words with the world, so they may find complete joy within themselves.
I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
I've shared your teachings with them, but the world despises them because they don't belong to it, just like I don't.
I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
I'm not asking you to remove them from life's challenges, but to protect them from harm and wrongdoing.
They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
They don't belong to this earthly realm, just as I too, am not a part of it.
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Purify them with your honesty; your teachings are the ultimate truth.
As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
Just as you've entrusted me with a mission in this world, I've also given them their own purpose to fulfill.
And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
For their benefit, I purify myself, so they too may find purity in truth.
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
I'm not just praying for these few, but also for all those who will come to believe in me through their teachings.
That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
May everyone unite, just as you, Father, are in me and I in you. Let them also be united with us, so the world can truly believe that you have sent me.
And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
The magnificent honor you bestowed upon me, I've shared with them. My wish is for them to unite, just as we are united.
I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
I exist within them, and you within me, so they can become whole as one. Let the world recognize that you sent me and that you love them just as much as you love me.
Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
Dad, I desire that those you've entrusted to me join me where I am, to witness the glory you've gifted me. You loved me even before the world began.
O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
Dear just Father, the world remains unaware of you. Yet, I recognize you, and others understand that you've sent me.
And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
I've shared your name with them and will continue to do so. This is so they can experience the same love you've given me, and feel your presence within them.
