1 Chronicles 14, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house.
King Hiram of Tyre, in a gesture of goodwill, sent David messengers carrying cedar wood, along with skilled masons and carpenters, to construct a home for him.
And David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.
David felt deeply in his heart that God had truly made him king over Israel, and that God had lifted his reign high for the sake of His people, Israel.
And David took more wives at Jerusalem: and David begat more sons and daughters.
In Jerusalem, David's heart expanded, embracing more wives. From these unions, he was blessed with additional sons and daughters.
Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,
In Jerusalem, he was blessed with children, each one a precious gift. Their names were Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon, each one carrying a piece of his heart.
And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,
Then came Ibhar, Elishua, and Elpalet, each with their own unique spirit and purpose.
And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
Then came Nogah, Nepheg, and Japhia, each with their own unique spirit.
And Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.
Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphalet, each with their own unique spirit and purpose, were present.
And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it, and went out against them.
When the Philistines discovered that David was crowned king of all Israel, they rallied to confront him. David, upon hearing this, bravely faced them.
And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
The Philistines boldly invaded, spreading out across the valley of Rephaim.
And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.
David, filled with uncertainty, asked God, "Should I confront the Philistines? Will you give me victory?" God, with assurance, replied, "Go ahead, David. I will ensure your triumph."
So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.
They reached Baalperazim, where David defeated them. David then proclaimed, "God has shattered my enemies through me, like a flood." Hence, they named that place Baalperazim.
And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.
After they abandoned their idols, David ordered their destruction, and they were consumed by flames.
And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley.
Once again, the Philistines boldly scattered themselves across the valley.
Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
David sought God's guidance once more. God advised him, "Don't follow them. Instead, confront them near the mulberry trees."
And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines.
When you hear rustling in the mulberry trees, it's time to fight. Know that God has already gone ahead of you to defeat your enemies.
David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer.
David faithfully followed God's instructions. They fiercely defeated the Philistine army, from Gibeon all the way to Gazer.
And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
David's renown spread far and wide, and the Lord made all the nations fear him.
