4

Moreover the sons of Obededom were, Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, and Sacar the fourth, and Nethaneel the fifth.

Obededom's sons were, firstly, Shemaiah, followed by Jehozabad, then Joah, Sacar, and Nethaneel, the fifth.

5

Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, Peulthai the eighth: for God blessed him.

Ammiel was the sixth, followed by Issachar as the seventh, and Peulthai was the eighth, for God had blessed Obededom abundantly.

6

Also unto Shemaiah his son were sons born, that ruled throughout the house of their father: for they were mighty men of valour.

Shemaiah's sons were born to lead, inheriting their father's house. They were brave and strong, truly remarkable men.

7

The sons of Shemaiah; Othni, and Rephael, and Obed, Elzabad, whose brethren were strong men, Elihu, and Semachiah.

Shemaiah's sons were Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad. They had powerful brothers, Elihu and Semachiah, who were known for their strength.

8

All these of the sons of Obededom: they and their sons and their brethren, able men for strength for the service, were threescore and two of Obededom.

All of Obededom's lineage, including his sons and their brothers, were strong and capable, ready to serve. In total, there were sixty-two of them from Obededom's family.

9

And Meshelemiah had sons and brethren, strong men, eighteen.

Meshelemiah was blessed with sons and brothers, eighteen robust and mighty men.

10

Also Hosah, of the children of Merari, had sons; Simri the chief, (for though he was not the firstborn, yet his father made him the chief;)

Hosah, from Merari's lineage, had sons. Simri was the leader, even though he wasn't the eldest. His father, seeing his potential, chose him to lead.

11

Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth: all the sons and brethren of Hosah were thirteen.

Hilkiah was the second, followed by Tebaliah, and then Zechariah. Hosah's sons and brothers numbered thirteen in all.

12

Among these were the divisions of the porters, even among the chief men, having wards one against another, to minister in the house of the LORD.

Among them were the gatekeepers, the leaders, each responsible for their own shift, serving faithfully in God's house.

13

And they cast lots, as well the small as the great, according to the house of their fathers, for every gate.

Everyone, regardless of their status, drew straws to decide their roles, each according to their family lineage, for every gate duty.

14

And the lot eastward fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah his son, a wise counsellor, they cast lots; and his lot came out northward.

The lot for the east gate fell to Shelemiah. Then lots were cast for his son Zechariah, a man of wisdom and guidance, and the lot for the north gate fell to him.

15

To Obededom southward; and to his sons the house of Asuppim.

To Obededom, towards the south; and to his children, the dwelling of Asuppim.

16

To Shuppim and Hosah the lot came forth westward, with the gate Shallecheth, by the causeway of the going up, ward against ward.

Shuppim and Hosah were chosen by fate to guard the western gate, Shallecheth. Their duty was along the ascending path, each taking turns to keep watch.

17

Eastward were six Levites, northward four a day, southward four a day, and toward Asuppim two and two.

Each day six Levites stood guard on the east, four on the north, four on the south, and two pairs at Asuppim.

18

At Parbar westward, four at the causeway, and two at Parbar.

In the west at Parbar, there were four, along the pathway, two more were stationed at Parbar.

19

These are the divisions of the porters among the sons of Kore, and among the sons of Merari.

The roles of the gatekeepers were divided among Kore's and Merari's sons.

20

And of the Levites, Ahijah was over the treasures of the house of God, and over the treasures of the dedicated things.

Ahijah, a Levite, was entrusted with the sacred duty of guarding God's house treasures and the precious dedicated items.

21

As concerning the sons of Laadan; the sons of the Gershonite Laadan, chief fathers, even of Laadan the Gershonite, were Jehieli.

Regarding Laadan's sons, who were Gershonites, their leading patriarch was Jehieli.

22

The sons of Jehieli; Zetham, and Joel his brother, which were over the treasures of the house of the LORD.

Jehieli's sons, Zetham and his brother Joel, were entrusted with the sacred duty of guarding the Lord's house treasures.

23

Of the Amramites, and the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites:

Among the Amramites, Izharites, Hebronites, and Uzzielites:

24

And Shebuel the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, was ruler of the treasures.

Shebuel, Moses' grandson through Gershom, held the esteemed position of guardian over the treasures.

25

And his brethren by Eliezer; Rehabiah his son, and Jeshaiah his son, and Joram his son, and Zichri his son, and Shelomith his son.

Eliezer's lineage was marked by love; his son Rehabiah, followed by Jeshaiah, then Joram, Zichri, and finally, Shelomith. Each son, a new chapter of their family's story.

26

Which Shelomith and his brethren were over all the treasures of the dedicated things, which David the king, and the chief fathers, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the host, had dedicated.

Shelomith and his brothers were entrusted with all the sacred treasures. These were the offerings made by King David, the patriarchs, and the military leaders.

27

Out of the spoils won in battles did they dedicate to maintain the house of the LORD.

From the treasures they gained in their victories, they lovingly set aside a portion to sustain the Lord's home.

28

And all that Samuel the seer, and Saul the son of Kish, and Abner the son of Ner, and Joab the son of Zeruiah, had dedicated; and whosoever had dedicated any thing, it was under the hand of Shelomith, and of his brethren.

Everything that the visionary Samuel, Saul of Kish, Abner of Ner, and Joab of Zeruiah had devoted, along with anyone else's offerings, were all under the careful guardianship of Shelomith and his brothers.

30

And of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brethren, men of valour, a thousand and seven hundred, were officers among them of Israel on this side Jordan westward in all the business of the LORD, and in the service of the king.

Hashabiah and his brave brothers, 1700 strong Hebronites, served as leaders in Israel, west of the Jordan. They were devoted to God's work and loyal to the king.

31

Among the Hebronites was Jerijah the chief, even among the Hebronites, according to the generations of his fathers. In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jazer of Gilead.

Jerijah was a respected leader of the Hebronites, by the records of his family line. In King David's 40th year of rule, the Hebronites' records were searched, and brave and strong warriors were found among them in Jazer of Gilead.

32

And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred chief fathers, whom king David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God, and affairs of the king.

David appointed 2,700 brave and respected brothers as leaders over the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh. Their role was to oversee all matters related to God and the king's affairs.
