1 Chronicles 15, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
And David made him houses in the city of David, and prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent.
David, filled with reverence, built homes in his beloved city. He lovingly prepared a special place for God's sacred ark, setting up a tent for it with great care.
Then David said, None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites: for them hath the LORD chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister unto him for ever.
David passionately declared, "Only the Levites, chosen by God, should carry His sacred ark. They are forever appointed to serve Him."
And David gathered all Israel together to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the LORD unto his place, which he had prepared for it.
David united everyone in Israel and led them to Jerusalem. Their mission was to carry the sacred Ark of the Lord to its designated place, a spot David had thoughtfully prepared.
And David assembled the children of Aaron, and the Levites:
With a heart full of purpose, David gathered Aaron's descendants and the Levites together.
Of the sons of Kohath; Uriel the chief, and his brethren an hundred and twenty:
Among the descendants of Kohath, Uriel stood as the leader, surrounded by his 120 brothers, united in faith and purpose.
Of the sons of Merari; Asaiah the chief, and his brethren two hundred and twenty:
From the lineage of Merari, Asaiah stood as the leader, surrounded by his 220 brothers.
Of the sons of Gershom; Joel the chief and his brethren an hundred and thirty:
Among Gershom's sons, Joel was the leader, standing strong with his 130 brothers.
Of the sons of Elizaphan; Shemaiah the chief, and his brethren two hundred:
Elizaphan's son, Shemaiah, was the leader, and he was supported by his two hundred brothers.
Of the sons of Hebron; Eliel the chief, and his brethren fourscore:
Among Hebron's sons, Eliel was the leader, accompanied by eighty of his brothers.
Of the sons of Uzziel; Amminadab the chief, and his brethren an hundred and twelve.
From the lineage of Uzziel, Amminadab emerged as the leader, accompanied by his 112 loyal brothers.
And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, and Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminadab,
David, with a sense of urgency, summoned Zadok and Abiathar, the respected priests, and the Levites - Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab, with a deep respect and anticipation in his voice.
And said unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it.
He told them, "You are the leaders of the Levite family. Purify yourselves and your kin, so you can move the Ark of the Lord, the God of Israel, to the place I've prepared."
For because ye did it not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order.
Because you Levites didn't carry it the first time, the Lord our God broke out against us in anger, for we didn't seek Him in the way He had laid down.
So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel.
The priests and Levites prepared themselves spiritually to carry the sacred ark of the Lord God of Israel.
And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of the LORD.
The Levites, following Moses' instructions from God, carried the sacred Ark of God on their shoulders using poles.
And David spake to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers with instruments of musick, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy.
David passionately urged the Levite leaders to choose their kin as joyful musicians, playing psalteries, harps, and cymbals, to fill the air with uplifting melodies.
So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brethren, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brethren, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;
The Levites, with a sense of duty, chose Heman, Joel's son. Among his brothers, they selected Asaph, Berechiah's son. From the Merari clan, they picked Ethan, Kushaiah's son.
And with them their brethren of the second degree, Zechariah, Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, Eliab, and Benaiah, and Maaseiah, and Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah, and Obededom, and Jeiel, the porters.
Alongside them were their brothers of the next rank: Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Elipheleh, Mikneiah, and the gatekeepers Obededom and Jeiel.
So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were appointed to sound with cymbals of brass;
The gifted musicians, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were chosen to play the resounding brass cymbals with passion.
And Zechariah, and Aziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with psalteries on Alamoth;
Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah, all played their psalteries with heartfelt passion and devotion, creating a melody that resonated with the divine.
And Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah, and Obededom, and Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps on the Sheminith to excel.
Mattithiah, Elipheleh, Mikneiah, Obededom, Jeiel, and Azaziah passionately played their harps, leading the music.
And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was for song: he instructed about the song, because he was skilful.
Chenaniah, the lead Levite, was a master of music. He taught others about song with great expertise.
And Berechiah and Elkanah were doorkeepers for the ark.
Berechiah and Elkanah faithfully stood guard, their hearts filled with reverence, as protectors of the sacred ark.
And Shebaniah, and Jehoshaphat, and Nethaneel, and Amasai, and Zechariah, and Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, did blow with the trumpets before the ark of God: and Obededom and Jehiah were doorkeepers for the ark.
Shebaniah, Jehoshaphat, Nethaneel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, all priests, passionately played their trumpets in honor of God's Ark. Meanwhile, Obededom and Jehiah, with a sense of duty and reverence, stood guard at the Ark's entrance.
So David, and the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the house of Obededom with joy.
David, the elders of Israel, and the military leaders joyfully journeyed to retrieve the Lord's covenant ark from Obededom's home.
And it came to pass, when God helped the Levites that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that they offered seven bullocks and seven rams.
When God assisted the Levites carrying the Lord's covenant ark, they gratefully sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.
And David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites that bare the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the song with the singers: David also had upon him an ephod of linen.
David was adorned in a robe of exquisite linen, as were all the Levites carrying the ark, the singers, and Chenaniah, the chief musician. David also wore a linen ephod, radiating with divine grace.
Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with psalteries and harps.
With great joy and loud cheers, all of Israel carried the Lord's sacred chest. They celebrated with the blare of horns, trumpets, and cymbals, and filled the air with the music of harps and lyres.
And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal, the daughter of Saul looking out at a window saw king David dancing and playing: and she despised him in her heart.
When the sacred ark of God's covenant arrived in David's city, Saul's daughter Michal watched from a window as King David danced and played joyfully. But instead of sharing his joy, she felt a deep disdain for him in her heart.
