1 Chronicles 23, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.
As David's life neared its sunset, filled with years and wisdom, he lovingly passed the mantle of Israel's kingship to his son, Solomon.
And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.
He united all of Israel's leaders, priests, and Levites, bringing them together in harmony.
Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.
The Levites, starting at age thirty, were counted one by one. The total came to thirty-eight thousand.
Of which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the LORD; and six thousand were officers and judges:
In this endeavor, 24,000 were dedicated to building the Lord's house, while 6,000 served as leaders and arbiters.
Moreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith.
David proudly proclaimed, "Four thousand served as gatekeepers, and another four thousand expressed their heartfelt praises to the LORD using the instruments I crafted for this very purpose."
And David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
David, with careful consideration, evenly distributed responsibilities among Levi's sons - Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
Of the Gershonites were, Laadan, and Shimei.
Among the Gershonites, there were two notable figures, Laadan and Shimei.
The sons of Laadan; the chief was Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.
Laadan's sons were three; Jehiel, the leader, followed by Zetham and Joel.
The sons of Shimei; Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief of the fathers of Laadan.
Shimei had three sons - Shelomith, Haziel, and Haran. They were the respected leaders of the Laadan family.
And the sons of Shimei were, Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.
Shimei was blessed with four sons, each unique and special: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These were the cherished offspring of Shimei.
And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they were in one reckoning, according to their father’s house.
Jahath was the leader, with Zizah as his right hand. Jeush and Beriah, however, had few sons, so they were counted as one family, in line with their father's lineage.
The sons of Kohath; Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.
The lineage of Kohath included four sons; Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, each unique and special.
The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name for ever.
Amram's sons were Aaron and Moses. Aaron and his sons were set apart forever to consecrate the most holy things. Their duty was to burn incense before the Lord, serve Him, and pronounce blessings in His name forever.
Now concerning Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi.
Regarding Moses, God's devoted servant, his sons hailed from the Levi tribe.
The sons of Moses were, Gershom, and Eliezer.
Moses was blessed with two sons, Gershom and Eliezer, who filled his heart with joy.
Of the sons of Gershom, Shebuel was the chief.
Among Gershom's sons, Shebuel stood as the leader.
And the sons of Eliezer were, Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had none other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.
Eliezer had only one son, Rehabiah, who was his pride and joy. Despite Eliezer having no other sons, Rehabiah blessed him with a multitude of grandsons.
Of the sons of Izhar; Shelomith the chief.
Shelomith, the prominent son of Izhar, led with distinction.
Of the sons of Hebron; Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.
Among Hebron's sons, Jeriah was the eldest, followed by Amariah, then Jahaziel, and finally, the youngest, Jekameam.
Of the sons of Uzziel; Micah the first and Jesiah the second.
From Uzziel's lineage came two sons; Micah, the elder, and Jesiah, his younger brother.
The sons of Merari; Mahli, and Mushi. The sons of Mahli; Eleazar, and Kish.
Merari's sons were Mahli and Mushi. From Mahli came Eleazar and Kish.
And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters: and their brethren the sons of Kish took them.
Eleazar passed away, leaving behind no sons, only daughters. Their cousins, Kish's sons, married them.
The sons of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.
Mushi's sons were three in number; Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth, each unique and cherished.
These were the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from the age of twenty years and upward.
These were Levi's sons, leaders in their family lineage. They were meticulously counted and named, dedicating themselves to serve God's house from the age of twenty.
For David said, The LORD God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem for ever:
David declared, "The LORD, our God, has blessed His people with peace, allowing them to make Jerusalem their eternal home."
And also unto the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the service thereof.
The Levites no longer need to bear the burden of transporting the tabernacle and its sacred items for worship.
For by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above:
In David's final decree, he counted all Levites aged twenty and above.
Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;
Their duty was to assist Aaron's sons in serving the Lord's house. They worked in the courts, rooms, and in the purification of sacred items, all for the service of God's house.
Both for the shewbread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and size;
For the sacred bread, the fine flour used in offerings, the unleavened cakes, the baked goods, the fried items, and for everything, regardless of its size or quantity.
And to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at even:
They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and to do the same as night fell.
And to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the LORD in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the LORD:
They were to offer all the burnt offerings to the Lord on the Sabbaths, at the new moons, and at the appointed feasts, in the numbers and the order commanded them, always before the Lord.
And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the LORD.
They must faithfully guard the meeting tent, the sacred space, and support their brothers, Aaron's sons, in serving God's house.
