Deuteronomy 26, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
And it shall be, when thou art come in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and possessest it, and dwellest therein;
When you finally arrive in the land that the LORD your God has gifted you as your inheritance, and you take ownership and make it your home;
That thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land that the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt put it in a basket, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name there.
Give the first portion of your harvest, a gift from God's land, to Him. Place it in a basket and take it to the sacred place chosen by God.
And thou shalt go unto the priest that shall be in those days, and say unto him, I profess this day unto the LORD thy God, that I am come unto the country which the LORD sware unto our fathers for to give us.
Visit the spiritual leader of your time, and tell him, "Today, I declare to God, I've arrived in the land that God promised to our ancestors."
And the priest shall take the basket out of thine hand, and set it down before the altar of the LORD thy God.
The priest will gently take the basket from your grasp and reverently place it before God's sacred altar.
And thou shalt speak and say before the LORD thy God, A Syrian ready to perish was my father, and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous:
Stand before God and say, "My father was a struggling Syrian, on the brink of despair. He journeyed to Egypt, a stranger in a strange land, with only a handful of people. Yet there they flourished and became a great nation, powerful and thriving."
And the Egyptians evil entreated us, and afflicted us, and laid upon us hard bondage:
The Egyptians treated us cruelly, causing us great suffering and forcing us into harsh slavery.
And when we cried unto the LORD God of our fathers, the LORD heard our voice, and looked on our affliction, and our labour, and our oppression:
When we poured our hearts out to God, our ancestors' God, He heard our pleas. He saw our struggles, our hard work, and our suffering.
And the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders:
With immense power and awe-inspiring might, God liberated us from Egypt, showcasing miracles and signs that left us in awe.
And he hath brought us into this place, and hath given us this land, even a land that floweth with milk and honey.
He has lovingly guided us to this beautiful place, generously gifting us this fertile land, abundant and rich like flowing milk and honey.
And now, behold, I have brought the firstfruits of the land, which thou, O LORD, hast given me. And thou shalt set it before the LORD thy God, and worship before the LORD thy God:
Now, I present to you, my Lord, the first blessings from the land you've gifted me. I place them before you, my God, and humbly bow in worship.
And thou shalt rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the Levite, and the stranger that is among you.
Celebrate and appreciate every blessing that God has given you and your family, together with the Levite and the foreigner living among you.
When thou hast made an end of tithing all the tithes of thine increase the third year, which is the year of tithing, and hast given it unto the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled;
After you've set aside a portion of your earnings for the third year, the year of giving, and shared it with the clergy, the outsider, the orphan, and the widow, they'll be able to eat and be satisfied within your community.
Then thou shalt say before the LORD thy God, I have brought away the hallowed things out of mine house, and also have given them unto the Levite, and unto the stranger, to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all thy commandments which thou hast commanded me: I have not transgressed thy commandments, neither have I forgotten them.
Standing before God, you'll declare, "I've removed the sacred portion from my home and given it to the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows, just as you instructed. I've obeyed your commands and never forgotten them."
I have not eaten thereof in my mourning, neither have I taken away ought thereof for any unclean use, nor given ought thereof for the dead: but I have hearkened to the voice of the LORD my God, and have done according to all that thou hast commanded me.
I've never used any of it for my own grief, nor have I misused it in any impure way, or offered it to the dead. Instead, I've listened to God's voice and followed all His commands.
Look down from thy holy habitation, from heaven, and bless thy people Israel, and the land which thou hast given us, as thou swarest unto our fathers, a land that floweth with milk and honey.
From your sacred home in heaven, shower blessings on your people, Israel, and the land you promised our ancestors - a land abundant with prosperity and sweetness.
This day the LORD thy God hath commanded thee to do these statutes and judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.
Today, God has asked you to follow His rules and decisions. So, with all your heart and soul, passionately and sincerely, obey and carry them out.
Thou hast avouched the LORD this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice:
Today, you've passionately pledged to make the Lord your God. You've committed to follow His path, obey His rules, listen to His commands, and heed His voice.
And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments;
Today, God has chosen you to be His special people, just as He promised. He asks that you follow all His teachings with love and devotion.
And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken.
God desires to elevate you above all nations, to be celebrated, recognized, and respected. He wants you to be a sacred community dedicated to Him, just as He promised.
