Deuteronomy 34, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the LORD shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan,

Moses journeyed from the flatlands of Moab, climbing to the peak of Mount Nebo, overlooking Jericho. There, God revealed to him the vast expanse of Gilead, stretching all the way to Dan.

2

And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea,

Every inch of Naphtali, Ephraim, Manasseh, and the vast lands of Judah, stretching all the way to the distant sea.

3

And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar.

In the warm embrace of the south, across the flat expanse of Jericho's valley, where the city of palms stands tall, reaching all the way to Zoar.

4

And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.

With a profound voice, the LORD declared, "This is the promised land I vowed to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I've allowed you to witness its beauty, but you won't step foot in it."

5

So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.

In the land of Moab, Moses, God's faithful servant, passed away, just as the Lord had foretold.

6

And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.

In a quiet valley in Moab, near Bethpeor, he laid him to rest. Yet, to this day, no one knows the exact location of his grave.

7

And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.

Moses passed away at the ripe age of 120, his vision still clear and his strength undiminished.

8

And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days: so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.

The people of Israel cried deeply for Moses in the flatlands of Moab for a full month. After thirty days, their period of grief and sorrow for Moses came to a close.

9

And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses.

Joshua, son of Nun, was brimming with divine wisdom, a gift passed on by Moses through a touch. The people of Israel listened to him and followed God's commands as instructed by Moses.

10

And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face,

Since then, in Israel, no prophet as remarkable as Moses has emerged, who shared such a close, personal connection with the Lord.

11

In all the signs and the wonders, which the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land,

With every miraculous sign and wonder, God guided him in Egypt, displaying His power to Pharaoh, his servants, and throughout the land.

12

And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great terror which Moses shewed in the sight of all Israel.

With immense power and awe-inspiring fear, Moses demonstrated before all of Israel.
