Exodus 28, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons.
Choose your brother Aaron and his sons from among the Israelites. They will serve me as priests. This includes Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar, all sons of Aaron.
And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty.
Create sacred attire for your brother Aaron, to honor him and showcase his elegance.
And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.
Speak to those with wise hearts, whom I've blessed with wisdom. Ask them to create special garments for Aaron, so he can serve me as a priest.
And these are the garments which they shall make; a breastplate, and an ephod, and a robe, and a broidered coat, a mitre, and a girdle: and they shall make holy garments for Aaron thy brother, and his sons, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.
They will create sacred attire; a chest piece, a vest, a cloak, an embroidered jacket, a turban, and a belt. These holy clothes are for your brother Aaron and his sons, so they can serve me as priests.
And they shall take gold, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen.
They will gather precious gold, deep blue, vibrant purple, fiery scarlet, and the finest linen, with hearts full of reverence and eyes gleaming with awe.
And they shall make the ephod of gold, of blue, and of purple, of scarlet, and fine twined linen, with cunning work.
They will craft the ephod with golden threads, hues of blue and purple, scarlet, and finely woven linen, all with skilled and careful hands.
It shall have the two shoulderpieces thereof joined at the two edges thereof; and so it shall be joined together.
The two shoulder pieces will be connected at their edges, uniting them as one.
And the curious girdle of the ephod, which is upon it, shall be of the same, according to the work thereof; even of gold, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen.
The intricate belt of the ephod, resting upon it, should match it perfectly, crafted with the same care and materials; shimmering gold, deep blue, vibrant purple, fiery scarlet, and finely woven linen.
And thou shalt take two onyx stones, and grave on them the names of the children of Israel:
You shall find two onyx stones, and with deep reverence, etch upon them the names of the beloved children of Israel.
Six of their names on one stone, and the other six names of the rest on the other stone, according to their birth.
On one stone, engrave the names of the first six, born earliest. On the other, inscribe the remaining six, born later.
With the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a signet, shalt thou engrave the two stones with the names of the children of Israel: thou shalt make them to be set in ouches of gold.
Carve the names of Israel's children into two stones, as a jeweler would. Set them in golden frames, like precious gems.
And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod for stones of memorial unto the children of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD upon his two shoulders for a memorial.
Place the two stones on the ephod's shoulders as a reminder for the people of Israel. Let Aaron carry their names on his shoulders before the Lord as a lasting memory.
And thou shalt make ouches of gold;
You shall create golden clasps with love and care.
And two chains of pure gold at the ends; of wreathen work shalt thou make them, and fasten the wreathen chains to the ouches.
Create two chains of pure gold, intricately woven. Attach these beautifully crafted chains to the clasps with care and precision.
And thou shalt make the breastplate of judgment with cunning work; after the work of the ephod thou shalt make it; of gold, of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, and of fine twined linen, shalt thou make it.
Craft the breastplate of judgment with utmost skill and care, similar to the ephod. Use gold, blue, purple, scarlet, and fine linen in its creation.
Foursquare it shall be being doubled; a span shall be the length thereof, and a span shall be the breadth thereof.
It should be perfectly square when folded double, as long and as wide as the span of a hand.
And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this shall be the first row.
You shall place within it a quartet of stone rows, each unique and precious. The inaugural row will sparkle with a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle, setting the tone for the rest.
And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond.
In the next line, there will be a vibrant emerald, a deep blue sapphire, and a sparkling diamond.
And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst.
In the third row, there was a ligure, glowing with mystery, an agate radiating warmth, and an amethyst shimmering with royal majesty.
And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper: they shall be set in gold in their inclosings.
In the final row, there will be a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper, all beautifully encased in pure gold.
And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet; every one with his name shall they be according to the twelve tribes.
Each of the twelve stones will bear the name of one of Israel's children, representing the twelve tribes. Each name will be engraved as if on a signet ring.
And thou shalt make upon the breastplate chains at the ends of wreathen work of pure gold.
You shall create chains of pure gold, intricately woven, to adorn the sacred breastplate.
And thou shalt make upon the breastplate two rings of gold, and shalt put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate.
Craft two golden rings and attach them to each end of the sacred chest piece.
And thou shalt put the two wreathen chains of gold in the two rings which are on the ends of the breastplate.
Gently, you'll attach the two golden, twisted chains to the rings at the edges of the sacred chest piece.
And the other two ends of the two wreathen chains thou shalt fasten in the two ouches, and put them on the shoulderpieces of the ephod before it.
Secure the two ends of the twisted chains to the two settings, and attach them to the shoulder straps of the priestly garment at the front.
And thou shalt make two rings of gold, and thou shalt put them upon the two ends of the breastplate in the border thereof, which is in the side of the ephod inward.
Craft two golden rings and attach them to each end of the chest piece, on its inner edge, next to the ephod.
And two other rings of gold thou shalt make, and shalt put them on the two sides of the ephod underneath, toward the forepart thereof, over against the other coupling thereof, above the curious girdle of the ephod.
Create two more golden rings and attach them to the sides of the ephod, at the front, just above its beautifully crafted belt.
And they shall bind the breastplate by the rings thereof unto the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, that it may be above the curious girdle of the ephod, and that the breastplate be not loosed from the ephod.
They will securely attach the chest piece to the ephod using blue cords, ensuring it sits above the intricately woven belt. This way, the chest piece will always stay firmly connected to the ephod.
And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the LORD continually.
Aaron will carry the names of Israel's children on his heart, wearing them on his chest plate as he enters the sacred space. This will serve as a constant, heartfelt reminder before the Lord.
And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron’s heart, when he goeth in before the LORD: and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually.
Place the Urim and Thummim into the chest piece of decision. They should rest on Aaron's heart as he enters the presence of the Lord. Aaron will carry the decisions for the people of Israel in his heart before the Lord at all times.
And thou shalt make the robe of the ephod all of blue.
You should create the ephod's robe entirely in the hue of the serene sky.
And there shall be an hole in the top of it, in the midst thereof: it shall have a binding of woven work round about the hole of it, as it were the hole of an habergeon, that it be not rent.
There will be a hole at its peak, right in the center. It will be reinforced with intricate weaving around this hole, much like the hole in a chainmail armor, ensuring it doesn't tear.
And beneath upon the hem of it thou shalt make pomegranates of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, round about the hem thereof; and bells of gold between them round about:
Adorn the edge of it with vibrant blue, purple, and scarlet pomegranates. Intersperse them with golden bells, creating a beautiful, colorful border.
A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe round about.
A golden bell and a pomegranate, alternating in a pattern, adorning the edge of the robe all around.
And it shall be upon Aaron to minister: and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the LORD, and when he cometh out, that he die not.
Aaron must wear this robe when he serves, and the sound of its bells will be heard when he goes into the holy place before the Lord and when he comes out, so that he does not die.
And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.
Craft a pure gold plaque and etch into it, as if you're carving a seal, the words: "Devoted to the Lord".
And thou shalt put it on a blue lace, that it may be upon the mitre; upon the forefront of the mitre it shall be.
Tie it with a blue ribbon and place it on the front of the headpiece, so it's clearly visible.
And it shall be upon Aaron’s forehead, that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the children of Israel shall hallow in all their holy gifts; and it shall be always upon his forehead, that they may be accepted before the LORD.
It will be on Aaron's forehead, so that he carries the guilt connected with the holy gifts the Israelites set apart for God. It must always be on his forehead, so that their gifts are accepted by the Lord.
And thou shalt embroider the coat of fine linen, and thou shalt make the mitre of fine linen, and thou shalt make the girdle of needlework.
You shall lovingly craft a coat of delicate linen, create a headpiece from the same fine material, and weave a belt with intricate needlework.
And for Aaron’s sons thou shalt make coats, and thou shalt make for them girdles, and bonnets shalt thou make for them, for glory and for beauty.
You shall lovingly create robes, belts, and hats for Aaron's sons, crafting them with such splendor and elegance that they radiate glory and beauty.
And thou shalt put them upon Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him; and shalt anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office.
Dress your brother Aaron and his sons in these sacred garments. Anoint them, bless them, and set them apart so they can serve me as priests.
And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:
You shall create modest linen garments for them, covering their bareness from waist to thigh.
And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they come in unto the tabernacle of the congregation, or when they come near unto the altar to minister in the holy place; that they bear not iniquity, and die: it shall be a statute for ever unto him and his seed after him.
Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the meeting tent or come near the altar to serve in the holy place, so that they do not bring guilt on themselves and die. This is a timeless law for Aaron and his descendants after him.
