Exodus 31, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
The Lord passionately communicated with Moses, expressing,
See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah:
Look, I have personally chosen Bezaleel, Uri's son and Hur's grandson from the tribe of Judah.
And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,
I've imbued him with God's spirit, granting him wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and skill in every craft.
To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass,
To craft intricate designs, to shape gold, silver, and brass with skill and passion.
And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.
To cut and set stones, to carve wood, and to master every form of craftsmanship.
And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee;
Look, I have chosen Aholiab, Ahisamach's son from the tribe of Dan, to work alongside him. I have filled the hearts of all the skilled workers with wisdom, enabling them to create everything I have instructed you.
The tabernacle of the congregation, and the ark of the testimony, and the mercy seat that is thereupon, and all the furniture of the tabernacle,
The gathering place of worship, the sacred chest of God's promises, the throne of mercy resting atop it, and all the holy furnishings within,
And the table and his furniture, and the pure candlestick with all his furniture, and the altar of incense,
The sacred table with all its adornments, the pure, glowing candlestick with its complete set, and the altar of fragrant incense.
And the altar of burnt offering with all his furniture, and the laver and his foot,
The sacred altar for sacrifices, complete with all its furnishings, and the basin with its stand,
And the cloths of service, and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest’s office,
The sacred attire, the divine vestments for Aaron, the priest, and the robes for his sons, all meant for their holy duties.
And the anointing oil, and sweet incense for the holy place: according to all that I have commanded thee shall they do.
The sacred oil and fragrant incense for the holy sanctuary, they shall prepare as I have instructed.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
The Lord passionately communicated with Moses, expressing,
Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.
Tell the people of Israel, "Respect my Sabbaths. This is a symbol of our bond, generation after generation. It's a way to recognize that I, the Lord, am the one who makes you holy."
Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
Respect the Sabbath, it's sacred to you. Anyone who profanes it must be put to death. Whoever does any work on this day will be cut off from their people.
Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
Work may be done for six days, but the seventh day is a sacred day of rest, holy to the Lord. Anyone who works on this day must be put to death.
Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
The children of Israel must honor the Sabbath, observing it generation after generation, as an eternal promise.
It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
This is an eternal symbol for me and my people, Israel: God crafted the universe in six days, then took a well-deserved rest on the seventh, feeling rejuvenated.
And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.
After finishing their divine conversation on Mount Sinai, God handed Moses two stone tablets. These were not ordinary stones, but sacred testimonies inscribed by God's own hand.
