Revelation 5, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.

In the mighty hand of the one seated on the throne, I saw a book. It was filled with words, inside and out, and locked away with seven seals.

2

And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?

I witnessed a powerful angel, calling out passionately, "Who is deserving enough to unveil the secrets of this book and break its seals?"

3

And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.

No one, whether in heaven, on earth, or beneath it, had the power or the right to open or even gaze upon the book.

4

And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.

I cried deeply, for there was no one deemed worthy enough to open, read, or even gaze upon the book.

5

And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

One of the wise elders comforted me, saying, "Don't cry. Look, the brave Lion from Judah's tribe, the descendant of David, has succeeded. He can now open the sacred book and unlock its seven seals."

6

And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

I saw, with awe and wonder, a Lamb standing at the heart of the throne, surrounded by four creatures and elders. This Lamb, appearing as if sacrificed, had seven horns and seven eyes - symbols of the seven Spirits of God, sent to every corner of the earth.

7

And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

With a sense of purpose, he approached and gently retrieved the book from the right hand of the one seated on the throne.

8

And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.

When he accepted the book, all the creatures and twenty-four elders humbly bowed before the Lamb. Each held a harp and a golden jar filled with fragrant incense, symbolizing the heartfelt prayers of the saints.

9

And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

They sang a new song: "You are worthy to take the book and open its seals. For you were slain, and by your blood you have bought people for God from every tribe, language, people, and nation."

10

And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

You have made us kings and priests to serve our God, and we will reign on the earth.

11

And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;

I looked around and heard the overwhelming chorus of countless angels surrounding the throne, the creatures, and the elders. They numbered ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands upon thousands.

12

Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

With a passionate cry, they declared, "The Lamb, sacrificed for us, truly deserves all power, wealth, wisdom, strength, respect, glory, and blessings."

13

And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

Every being, in heaven, on earth, beneath the ground, and in the sea, I heard them all. They were praising, honoring, glorifying, and empowering the one on the throne and the Lamb, forever and ever.

14

And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.

The four creatures voiced their agreement, "Amen". The twenty-four elders humbly bowed, offering their eternal reverence to the everlasting one.
