Revelation 6, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.

I watched in awe as the Lamb broke open one of the seals. A thunderous sound echoed, and one of the four creatures beckoned me with a powerful, "Come and see."

2

And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

I witnessed a vision of a majestic white horse, ridden by a figure armed with a bow. A crown of authority was bestowed upon him. With determination in his eyes, he set forth on a mission, destined to triumph and continue his victorious journey.

3

And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.

As he unveiled the second seal, I heard the second creature's call, inviting me to witness.

4

And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

A second horse emerged, fiery red in color. Its rider was granted the authority to strip the world of peace and make people kill one another. He was armed with a mighty sword.

5

And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.

As the third seal was broken, the third creature beckoned me to witness. I looked and saw a black horse, its rider holding a pair of scales in his hand.

6

And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

In the heart of the four creatures, I heard a voice say, "A quart of wheat costs a whole day's wage, and for the same price, you can get three quarts of barley. But be careful, don't damage the oil and wine."

7

And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.

As he broke open the fourth seal, I heard the call of the fourth creature, inviting me with a voice that echoed, "Come, witness this."

8

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

I saw a ghostly horse, ridden by Death himself, trailed by Hell. They were given control over a quarter of the world, with the power to bring destruction through war, famine, disease, and wild animals.

9

And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

As he unveiled the fifth seal, I glimpsed beneath the altar, the spirits of those who had sacrificed their lives for their unwavering faith in God's word and their steadfast testimonies.

10

And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

In deep anguish, they shouted, "When, O Lord, pure and just, will you vindicate us and bring justice for our spilled blood upon those living on earth?"

11

And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

Each of them received a pure white robe. They were told to rest a bit longer, until the time came for their fellow servants and brothers, who were to face the same fate, to join them.

12

And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

As he broke open the sixth seal, I watched in awe. A massive earthquake shook the earth, the sun darkened to a pitch-black hue, like a hair cloth, and the moon turned a chilling blood red.

13

And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

Stars from the sky tumbled down to earth, just like unripe figs falling from a tree when a powerful wind shakes it.

14

And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

The sky split open like a rolled-up scroll; every mountain and island shifted from their original locations.

15

And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

All the world's leaders, the powerful, the wealthy, the commanders, the strong, and every person, whether enslaved or free, sought shelter in caves and mountain crags, overwhelmed by fear.

16

And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

They cried out to the mountains and rocks, "Cover us! Shield us from the gaze of the one on the throne and from the Lamb's anger!"

17

For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

The day of his fierce anger has arrived; who can possibly endure it?
