Revelation 8, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.
As he unveiled the final seal, a profound hush fell over heaven, lingering for what felt like half an hour.
And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.
I witnessed the magnificent sight of seven angels standing in the presence of God, each bestowed with a trumpet.
And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
Another angel arrived, standing by the altar with a golden incense burner. He was given a great amount of incense to mix with the prayers of all the faithful, presenting it on the golden altar in front of the throne.
And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.
As the saints prayed, their heartfelt pleas mingled with the incense's smoke, rising up to God from the angel's hand.
And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.
The angel, with a heart ablaze, scooped up the sacred altar fire and flung it towards the earth. Suddenly, voices echoed, thunder roared, lightning flashed, and the earth trembled in awe.
And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
The seven angels, each holding a trumpet, readied themselves to play their divine notes.
The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.
When the first angel blew his trumpet, a terrifying storm of hail and fire mixed with blood descended upon the earth. It was a sight of pure devastation, as a third of all trees and every blade of green grass were consumed by the flames.
And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
Then the second angel blew his trumpet, and it was as if a massive, fiery mountain was hurled into the ocean. Suddenly, a third of the sea turned to blood.
And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
A third of all living sea creatures perished, and a third of all ships were obliterated.
And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
When the third angel blew his trumpet, a massive star, blazing like a torch, plummeted from the sky. It crashed into a third of the world's rivers and water sources, causing great disruption.
And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
The star was named Wormwood, turning a third of all water bitter like itself. This bitter water claimed many lives, as it was too toxic to consume.
And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
When the fourth angel blew his trumpet, a third of the sun, moon, and stars were struck, plunging them into darkness. A third of the day and night lost their light.
And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!
I saw and heard an angel soaring across the sky, crying out in a powerful voice, "Woe, woe, woe to the people of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts the three remaining angels are about to sound!"
