Leviticus 18, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
With a deep, compassionate voice, the LORD shared His wisdom with Moses, expressing,
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the LORD your God.
Tell the people of Israel, remind them gently, I am your God, full of love and power.
After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.
Don't follow the ways of Egypt, where you once lived, nor of Canaan, where I'm leading you. Don't adopt their customs.
Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God.
Follow my guidance, respect my rules, and walk in their path; remember, I am your God.
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.
Respect and follow my rules and decisions. If you do, you'll find life in them. Remember, I am the Lord.
None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.
Do not have sexual relations with any of your close relatives. Remember, I am the LORD.
The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
Never dishonor your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; never have sexual relations with her.
The nakedness of thy father’s wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father’s nakedness.
Never have sexual relations with your father's wife; that would dishonor your father.
The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover.
Never have sexual relations with your sister, whether she's your father's or your mother's daughter, born at home or elsewhere.
The nakedness of thy son’s daughter, or of thy daughter’s daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs is thine own nakedness.
Never have sexual relations with your granddaughter, your son's daughter or your daughter's daughter, for her shame would be your own.
The nakedness of thy father’s wife’s daughter, begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
Never have sexual relations with your half-sister, the daughter your father had by his wife; she is your sister.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father’s sister: she is thy father’s near kinswoman.
Never have sexual relations with your father's sister; she is close family to your father.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother’s sister: for she is thy mother’s near kinswoman.
Never have sexual relations with your mother's sister, as she is close family to your mother.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father’s brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she is thine aunt.
Never dishonor your father's brother by having sexual relations with his wife, for she is your aunt.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter in law: she is thy son’s wife; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
Never have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law, for she is your son's wife.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother’s wife: it is thy brother’s nakedness.
Never have sexual relations with your brother's wife; it would dishonor your brother himself.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son’s daughter, or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness.
Never have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter, and do not take her son's daughter or her daughter's daughter to have sexual relations with her. They are her close family. This is wickedness.
Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.
Never marry your wife's sister as her rival and have sexual relations with her while your wife is still alive.
Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness.
Do not seek intimacy with a woman during her time of menstrual impurity.
Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour’s wife, to defile thyself with her.
Never betray your trust by sleeping with your neighbor's wife, it will only taint your soul.
And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.
Never sacrifice your children to Molech, it's a disgrace to your God. Remember, I am the Lord.
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
Do not have sexual relations with another man as you would with a woman; it is detestable.
Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.
Do not degrade yourself by engaging in sexual acts with animals, and no woman should offer herself to an animal to mate with it. It is a perversion.
Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:
Don't taint yourself with such actions; remember, these are the very things that corrupted the nations I removed before you.
And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.
The land is tainted, so I am punishing it for its sins, and the land vomits out its own people in disgust.
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:
Respect and follow my rules and decisions, and don't engage in any of these terrible actions; not you, not your people, nor any outsider living among you.
(For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;)
The men who lived here before you committed terrible acts, tainting this land with their sins.
That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.
If you defile the land, it will vomit you out too, just as it vomited out the nations before you.
For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people.
Anyone who does any of these terrible things will be cut off from their people.
Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God.
Always follow my rules, so you don't repeat the terrible mistakes of the past. Don't taint yourself with them. Remember, I am your God.
