Leviticus 22, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
The Lord passionately communicated with Moses, expressing,
Speak unto Aaron and to his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel, and that they profane not my holy name in those things which they hallow unto me: I am the LORD.
Tell Aaron and his sons to keep themselves away from the sacred items of the Israelites, so they don't disrespect my holy name in the things they dedicate to me: I am the LORD.
Say unto them, Whosoever he be of all your seed among your generations, that goeth unto the holy things, which the children of Israel hallow unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, that soul shall be cut off from my presence: I am the LORD.
Tell them, anyone from your future generations who approaches sacred things, dedicated to the Lord by the people of Israel, while still impure, will be banished from my presence. I am the Lord.
What man soever of the seed of Aaron is a leper, or hath a running issue; he shall not eat of the holy things, until he be clean. And whoso toucheth any thing that is unclean by the dead, or a man whose seed goeth from him;
Any descendant of Aaron who has a skin disease or a bodily discharge should not partake in holy meals until they are purified. Anyone who comes into contact with anything made unclean by the dead, or by a man who has had an emission of semen, should also refrain.
Or whosoever toucheth any creeping thing, whereby he may be made unclean, or a man of whom he may take uncleanness, whatsoever uncleanness he hath;
Anyone who touches a creature that could make them impure, or a person who could pass on impurity, will themselves become impure, no matter what form that impurity takes.
The soul which hath touched any such shall be unclean until even, and shall not eat of the holy things, unless he wash his flesh with water.
If you come into contact with anything impure, you are unclean until evening. You're not allowed to eat the sacred food unless you cleanse your body with water.
And when the sun is down, he shall be clean, and shall afterward eat of the holy things; because it is his food.
Once the sun sets, he will be purified, then he can partake in the sacred meal, for it is his sustenance.
That which dieth of itself, or is torn with beasts, he shall not eat to defile himself therewith; I am the LORD.
Do not consume what dies naturally or is killed by animals, for it will taint you. Remember, I am the Lord.
They shall therefore keep mine ordinance, lest they bear sin for it, and die therefore, if they profane it: I the LORD do sanctify them.
They must follow my rules to avoid sin and death, for I, the Lord, have made them holy.
There shall no stranger eat of the holy thing: a sojourner of the priest, or an hired servant, shall not eat of the holy thing.
No outsider should partake in the sacred meal; neither a guest of the priest nor a paid worker is allowed to eat the holy food.
But if the priest buy any soul with his money, he shall eat of it, and he that is born in his house: they shall eat of his meat.
If a priest purchases someone with his wealth, he can share his meals with them. Similarly, anyone born in his household can partake in his food.
If the priest’s daughter also be married unto a stranger, she may not eat of an offering of the holy things.
If the priest's daughter marries a man who is not a priest, she's not allowed to partake in the sacred offerings.
But if the priest’s daughter be a widow, or divorced, and have no child, and is returned unto her father’s house, as in her youth, she shall eat of her father’s meat: but there shall be no stranger eat thereof.
If the priest's daughter, now a widow or divorced and childless, returns to her childhood home, she may share in her father's food. However, no outsider is allowed to partake in it.
And if a man eat of the holy thing unwittingly, then he shall put the fifth part thereof unto it, and shall give it unto the priest with the holy thing.
If a man unknowingly consumes something sacred, he must replace it, adding a fifth more, and give it to the priest along with the sacred item, feeling a sense of responsibility and reverence.
And they shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, which they offer unto the LORD;
They must respect and honor the sacred offerings of the Israelites to the LORD, not treating them with disregard or contempt.
Or suffer them to bear the iniquity of trespass, when they eat their holy things: for I the LORD do sanctify them.
Don't let them carry the burden of guilt when they consume their sacred offerings, for I, the Lord, have made them holy.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
The Lord passionately communicated with Moses, expressing,
Speak unto Aaron, and to his sons, and unto all the children of Israel, and say unto them, Whatsoever he be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers in Israel, that will offer his oblation for all his vows, and for all his freewill offerings, which they will offer unto the LORD for a burnt offering;
Tell Aaron, his sons, and all the people of Israel, that anyone, whether a native or a foreigner living in Israel, who wants to present a voluntary offering to the Lord as a burnt sacrifice, should do so.
Ye shall offer at your own will a male without blemish, of the beeves, of the sheep, or of the goats.
Willingly give a flawless male from your cattle, sheep, or goats.
But whatsoever hath a blemish, that shall ye not offer: for it shall not be acceptable for you.
Don't offer anything flawed or imperfect, for it won't be accepted.
And whosoever offereth a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the LORD to accomplish his vow, or a freewill offering in beeves or sheep, it shall be perfect to be accepted; there shall be no blemish therein.
Whoever presents a peace offering to God, fulfilling a promise or giving freely from their cattle or sheep, must ensure it is flawless to be accepted; it must be without any defect.
Blind, or broken, or maimed, or having a wen, or scurvy, or scabbed, ye shall not offer these unto the LORD, nor make an offering by fire of them upon the altar unto the LORD.
Do not present to the Lord offerings that are damaged, flawed, or diseased. Such offerings are not acceptable on His altar.
Either a bullock or a lamb that hath any thing superfluous or lacking in his parts, that mayest thou offer for a freewill offering; but for a vow it shall not be accepted.
You can freely offer a bull or lamb that has any extra or missing parts as a voluntary gift. However, such an animal won't be accepted for a promise offering.
Ye shall not offer unto the LORD that which is bruised, or crushed, or broken, or cut; neither shall ye make any offering thereof in your land.
Don't present anything damaged or imperfect to God as an offering. In your land, never make such a sacrifice.
Neither from a stranger’s hand shall ye offer the bread of your God of any of these; because their corruption is in them, and blemishes be in them: they shall not be accepted for you.
Do not offer any such animal as God's bread, even when it comes from a foreigner's hand; they are damaged and flawed, and will not be accepted on your behalf.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
The Lord passionately communicated with Moses, expressing,
When a bullock, or a sheep, or a goat, is brought forth, then it shall be seven days under the dam; and from the eighth day and thenceforth it shall be accepted for an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
When a calf, sheep, or goat is born, it must stay with its mother for seven days. But from the eighth day onwards, it can be offered as a heartfelt, fiery sacrifice to the Lord.
And whether it be cow, or ewe, ye shall not kill it and her young both in one day.
Show compassion and respect for life; do not take the lives of a mother animal and her baby on the same day.
And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the LORD, offer it at your own will.
When you give a thankful offering to the Lord, do it willingly and joyfully.
On the same day it shall be eaten up; ye shall leave none of it until the morrow: I am the LORD.
Enjoy and finish your meal today; don't save any for tomorrow. Remember, I am the Lord.
Therefore shall ye keep my commandments, and do them: I am the LORD.
Honor and follow my guidance, for I am your God.
Neither shall ye profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I am the LORD which hallow you,
Do not disrespect my sacred name. Instead, honor me among the people of Israel. I am the LORD who makes you holy.
That brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD.
I am the one who freed you from Egypt's chains, to guide and protect you as your God. Remember, I am the LORD.
