Leviticus 23, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
The Lord passionately communicated with Moses, expressing,
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.
Talk to the people of Israel, tell them about the sacred celebrations of the LORD. These are not just any feasts, they are my special feasts.
Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.
Work hard for six days, but on the seventh, rest and rejuvenate. It's a sacred day of peace; no work should be done. This day of rest, the Sabbath, is a gift from the Lord, wherever you may be.
These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons.
These are God's sacred celebrations, to be joyfully announced when their time comes.
In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD’s passover.
On the evening of the fourteenth day of the first month, we celebrate the Lord's Passover.
And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.
On the fifteenth day of the month, we celebrate the Lord's feast of unleavened bread. For seven days, we must only eat bread without yeast.
In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
On the first day, gather together in sacred unity; refrain from any ordinary labor.
But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
For seven days, present your heartfelt offerings to the Lord through the purifying flames. On the seventh day, gather in sacred assembly, refraining from all mundane tasks.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
With a deep, compassionate voice, the LORD shared His divine wisdom with Moses, saying,
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:
Tell the people of Israel, when you arrive in the land I'm giving you and gather its bountiful harvest, remember to bring the first and best of your crops to the priest as a heartfelt offering.
And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.
With a heart full of hope, he will present the bundle of grain to the Lord, seeking His approval for you. The day after the Sabbath, the priest will raise it high.
And ye shall offer that day when ye wave the sheaf an he lamb without blemish of the first year for a burnt offering unto the LORD.
On the day you present the first harvest, offer a young, flawless lamb as a heartfelt sacrifice to the Lord.
And the meat offering thereof shall be two tenth deals of fine flour mingled with oil, an offering made by fire unto the LORD for a sweet savour: and the drink offering thereof shall be of wine, the fourth part of an hin.
Present to the Lord a gift of two portions of fine flour mixed with oil, a sacrifice burned for His delight. Accompany it with a wine offering, a quarter of a small measure.
And ye shall eat neither bread, nor parched corn, nor green ears, until the selfsame day that ye have brought an offering unto your God: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
Until you've given your offering to God, don't eat any bread, roasted grain, or fresh ears of grain. This rule should be followed forever, in every generation and every home.
And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete:
Start counting the day after the Sabbath, from the day you present the grain offering. You should complete seven full weeks.
Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD.
Count fifty days, up to the day after the seventh Sabbath, then present a fresh offering of new grain to the Lord.
Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals; they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto the LORD.
From your homes, bring two loaves of bread, made from the finest flour and yeast. These are the first offerings to the Lord.
And ye shall offer with the bread seven lambs without blemish of the first year, and one young bullock, and two rams: they shall be for a burnt offering unto the LORD, with their meat offering, and their drink offerings, even an offering made by fire, of sweet savour unto the LORD.
Present to God seven perfect lambs, a young bull, and two rams, all in their first year of life. They are to be burnt offerings, a symbol of your devotion. Accompany them with food and drink offerings. This act of sacrifice, consumed by fire, will be a pleasing aroma to the Lord.
Then ye shall sacrifice one kid of the goats for a sin offering, and two lambs of the first year for a sacrifice of peace offerings.
Then you must offer a young goat as a way to apologize for your wrongdoings, and two newborn lambs as a symbol of your desire for peace.
And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits for a wave offering before the LORD, with the two lambs: they shall be holy to the LORD for the priest.
The priest will present the first harvest's bread and two lambs to God in a sacred ceremony. These offerings, blessed and pure, are for God and the priest alone.
And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work therein: it shall be a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.
On that special day, declare it a sacred gathering for all. No ordinary work should be done. This rule is timeless and should be followed in all your homes, generation after generation.
And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger: I am the LORD your God.
When you harvest your crops, don't pick them clean to the field's edge or gather every leftover. Leave some for the poor and the newcomers. Remember, I am your God who cares for everyone.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
The Lord passionately communicated with Moses, expressing,
Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.
Tell the people of Israel, on the first day of the seventh month, take a day off. Remember it as a special day of trumpet sounds, a sacred gathering.
Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
Avoid any ordinary labor, but instead, present a heartfelt and passionate offering to the Lord.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
The Lord passionately communicated with Moses, expressing,
Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
On the tenth day of the seventh month, let it be a sacred day of forgiveness for you all. Gather together, humble yourselves and go without, and present a heartfelt offering to the Lord through fire.
And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.
On that day, don't do any work. It's a special day to seek forgiveness from God.
For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.
Anyone who does not humble and deny themselves on that day will be cut off from their community.
And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.
Any person who works on this sacred day, I will destroy from among their people.
Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
You must not work at all. This rule is forever, for all future generations and in every home.
It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.
Take a day of complete rest for yourselves, and humble yourselves and go without. From the evening of the ninth day of the month until the next evening, honor this day of rest.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
The Lord passionately communicated with Moses, expressing,
Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the LORD.
Tell the people of Israel, with joy in your voice, that on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, we will celebrate the seven-day Feast of Tabernacles in honor of the LORD.
On the first day shall be an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
On the first day, gather in sacred unity; refrain from ordinary labor, embracing peace instead.
Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it is a solemn assembly; and ye shall do no servile work therein.
For seven days, present your fiery offerings to the Lord. On the eighth day, gather together in reverence, offering another fiery gift to Him. This is a sacred gathering; no ordinary work should be done.
These are the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD, a burnt offering, and a meat offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, every thing upon his day:
Celebrate God's festivals with reverence, announce them as sacred gatherings. Present your offerings to God - burnt and meat offerings, sacrifices, and libations, each on its designated day.
Beside the sabbaths of the LORD, and beside your gifts, and beside all your vows, and beside all your freewill offerings, which ye give unto the LORD.
These offerings are in addition to those of God's Sabbaths, and to your gifts, promises, and voluntary offerings to the Lord.
Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days: on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath.
On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, once you've harvested your crops, celebrate a seven-day festival in honor of God. The first and eighth days are days of rest.
And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days.
On the first day, gather beautiful tree branches, palm fronds, and willow twigs from the stream. Celebrate joyfully in the presence of God for a full week.
And ye shall keep it a feast unto the LORD seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month.
Celebrate a joyful festival for the Lord every year for seven days. This tradition should last forever in your families, and it should be held in the seventh month.
Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths:
For seven days, you, the children of Israel, should live in temporary shelters.
That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.
So future generations can remember, I, the Lord your God, provided shelter for the children of Israel when I rescued them from Egypt.
And Moses declared unto the children of Israel the feasts of the LORD.
Moses passionately shared with the people of Israel the joyous celebrations dedicated to the LORD.
