Leviticus 9, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

And it came to pass on the eighth day, that Moses called Aaron and his sons, and the elders of Israel;

On the eighth day, Moses, filled with a sense of purpose, summoned Aaron, his sons, and the respected elders of Israel.

2

And he said unto Aaron, Take thee a young calf for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering, without blemish, and offer them before the LORD.

He instructed Aaron, "Bring a young calf to atone for your sins and a flawless ram for a burnt offering. Present them to the Lord with reverence."

3

And unto the children of Israel thou shalt speak, saying, Take ye a kid of the goats for a sin offering; and a calf and a lamb, both of the first year, without blemish, for a burnt offering;

Tell the children of Israel, "For your sins, offer a young goat. Also, present a calf and a lamb, both in their first year and flawless, as a burnt offering."

4

Also a bullock and a ram for peace offerings, to sacrifice before the LORD; and a meat offering mingled with oil: for to day the LORD will appear unto you.

Offer a bull and a ram as peace offerings, to be sacrificed to the Lord, along with a grain offering mixed with oil. For today, you will witness the Lord's presence.

5

And they brought that which Moses commanded before the tabernacle of the congregation: and all the congregation drew near and stood before the LORD.

They brought the offerings Moses had commanded to the front of the community's sacred tent. Everyone gathered close, standing in the presence of the LORD with anticipation and reverence.

6

And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commanded that ye should do: and the glory of the LORD shall appear unto you.

Moses declared, "This is what God has instructed us to do. If we follow His commands, we will be blessed to witness His magnificent presence."

7

And Moses said unto Aaron, Go unto the altar, and offer thy sin offering, and thy burnt offering, and make an atonement for thyself, and for the people: and offer the offering of the people, and make an atonement for them; as the LORD commanded.

Moses, with a heavy heart, turned to Aaron and said, "Aaron, you must go to the altar. Offer your own sins and sacrifices, seek forgiveness for yourself and for our people. Then, present the people's offerings and seek their forgiveness too, just as the Lord has instructed us."

8

Aaron therefore went unto the altar, and slew the calf of the sin offering, which was for himself.

So Aaron, filled with a heavy heart, approached the altar. He then sacrificed the calf, an offering for his own sins.

9

And the sons of Aaron brought the blood unto him: and he dipped his finger in the blood, and put it upon the horns of the altar, and poured out the blood at the bottom of the altar:

Aaron's sons presented the blood to him. He touched the blood with his finger, marking the altar's horns, and let the rest flow at the altar's base.

10

But the fat, and the kidneys, and the caul above the liver of the sin offering, he burnt upon the altar; as the LORD commanded Moses.

He faithfully burned the fatty parts, kidneys, and liver covering of the sin offering on the altar, just as God had instructed Moses, with a sense of reverence and obedience.

11

And the flesh and the hide he burnt with fire without the camp.

He passionately incinerated the skin and meat outside the camp.

12

And he slew the burnt offering; and Aaron’s sons presented unto him the blood, which he sprinkled round about upon the altar.

He ended the life of the sacrificial offering. Aaron's sons brought him the lifeblood, which he gently scattered around the sacred altar.

13

And they presented the burnt offering unto him, with the pieces thereof, and the head: and he burnt them upon the altar.

They gave him the sacrificial offering, including its parts and the head. He then passionately set them aflame on the altar.

14

And he did wash the inwards and the legs, and burnt them upon the burnt offering on the altar.

With deep reverence, he cleansed the inner parts and legs, then offered them up in flames on the altar as a sacred offering.

15

And he brought the people’s offering, and took the goat, which was the sin offering for the people, and slew it, and offered it for sin, as the first.

He presented the people's sacrifice, the goat for their sin offering. He killed it and offered it for their sins, just as he had done with the first.

16

And he brought the burnt offering, and offered it according to the manner.

With deep reverence, he presented the burnt offering, following the sacred tradition.

17

And he brought the meat offering, and took an handful thereof, and burnt it upon the altar, beside the burnt sacrifice of the morning.

He presented the food offering, took a portion, and passionately burned it on the altar, alongside the morning's burnt sacrifice.

18

He slew also the bullock and the ram for a sacrifice of peace offerings, which was for the people: and Aaron’s sons presented unto him the blood, which he sprinkled upon the altar round about,

He compassionately ended the life of the bull and ram, a peace offering for the people. Aaron's sons respectfully handed him the blood, which he gently sprinkled around the altar.

19

And the fat of the bullock and of the ram, the rump, and that which covereth the inwards, and the kidneys, and the caul above the liver:

The rich parts of the bull and ram, the hindquarters, the protective layer over the innards, the kidneys, and the membrane over the liver.

20

And they put the fat upon the breasts, and he burnt the fat upon the altar:

They placed the fat on the breasts, and with a heavy heart, he set the fat ablaze on the altar.

21

And the breasts and the right shoulder Aaron waved for a wave offering before the LORD; as Moses commanded.

With a heart full of devotion, Aaron presented the breast and right shoulder as an offering, waving them before the Lord, just as Moses had instructed.

22

And Aaron lifted up his hand toward the people, and blessed them, and came down from offering of the sin offering, and the burnt offering, and peace offerings.

With a heartfelt gesture, Aaron raised his hand towards the people, bestowing upon them a blessing. He then stepped down, having completed the offerings for sin, for burnt sacrifices, and for peace.

23

And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of the congregation, and came out, and blessed the people: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the people.

Moses and Aaron stepped into the sacred tent, then emerged to shower blessings upon the crowd. In that moment, the magnificent glory of the Lord appeared to all the people.

24

And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

From God's presence erupted a divine fire, consuming the sacrificial offering on the altar, even the fat. Witnessing this, the people were overcome with awe, cheering loudly before falling prostrate in reverence.
