Psalm 1, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

Fortunate is the person who doesn't follow the advice of the wicked, doesn't join in with sinners, and doesn't mock others.

2

But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

He finds true joy in God's laws, reflecting on them constantly, day and night.

3

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

He will stand strong, like a tree by a flowing river, bearing fruit when the time is right. His spirit will never fade, and everything he does will flourish.

4

The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

Those who lack faith are unstable, easily swept away like worthless husks in the wind.

5

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

Thus, those who do wrong will not withstand judgment, nor will those who sin be among the virtuous.

6

For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

God watches over the path of the good, but the way of the wicked will perish.
