Psalm 120, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me.
In my deepest despair, I called out to the Lord, and He listened to me.
Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.
Lord, save me from the harm of dishonest words and the pain caused by insincere speech.
What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?
What will you receive, you deceitful tongue? What consequences await you?
Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.
Sharp arrows from a warrior and burning coals of juniper: that is what awaits you.
Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!
How unfortunate I feel, living in a place like Mesech, making my home among the tents of Kedar!
My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.
For a long time, my heart has lived with someone who despises harmony.
I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.
I yearn for harmony, yet when I voice my thoughts, they crave conflict.
