Psalm 89, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.
Forever, I'll joyfully sing about God's endless kindness. My words will echo His unwavering loyalty to every generation.
For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.
I've declared that kindness will always grow: your unwavering trust will be as constant as the sky above.
I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,
I've made a heartfelt promise to my chosen one, given my word to my loyal servant, David.
Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.
I promise to secure your legacy eternally, and uphold your reign through all ages. Pause and reflect.
And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.
The marvels of your creation will fill the skies with praise, O Lord. Your unwavering loyalty will be celebrated among your devoted followers.
For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD?
Who in the heavens could ever match the greatness of the Lord? Can any of the mighty ones truly be His equal?
God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.
In the gathering of the faithful, God's awe-inspiring presence should be deeply respected and revered by all around Him.
O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?
O mighty God, is there any power as strong as you? Can anyone match your unwavering faithfulness?
Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.
You master the fury of the sea; when its waves rise, you calm them.
Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm.
You've shattered Rahab, as if defeated in battle; you've dispersed your foes with your mighty strength.
The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.
You own the skies and the earth; you created the world and everything in it.
The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.
You've crafted both the north and south: Tabor and Hermon burst with joy in your honor.
Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.
Your power is immense, your grasp is firm, and your reach is limitless.
Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.
Your throne is built on fairness and righteousness; kindness and honesty are the light that guides your path.
Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.
Fortunate are those who recognize the sound of joy; they will journey, dear Lord, bathed in your radiant presence.
In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.
In your name, they'll find joy every day; your fairness will lift them high.
For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.
You are the source of our strength, filling us with pride. With your approval, we rise higher.
For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.
Our Lord is our shield, protecting us; our King, the Sacred One of Israel, guides us.
Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
In a divine vision, you spoke to your sacred one, saying, "I have given my help to a mighty warrior; I have raised up one chosen from among the people."
I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:
I've discovered David, my loyal servant. I've blessed him with my sacred oil.
With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.
My hand will hold him steady, and my arm will make him strong.
The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
No foe shall harm him, no wicked soul shall cause him pain.
And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him.
I will crush his enemies before him, and torment those who despise him.
But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.
My unwavering loyalty and compassion will always be with him, and through my name, he will rise in strength and honor.
I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.
I will extend his rule over the sea, and his power over the rivers.
He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.
He will call out to me, saying, "You are my father, my God, and the solid foundation of my salvation."
Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.
I will cherish him as my eldest child, elevating him above all earthly rulers.
My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.
I will forever shower him with my unending compassion, and my promise to him will remain unbroken.
His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
I will ensure his lineage lasts eternally, and his reign will be as enduring as the heavens.
If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;
If his children abandon my teachings and don't live by my judgments;
If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;
If they disregard my rules and ignore my instructions;
Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.
Then I will punish their wrongdoings with the rod, and their sins with lashes.
Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
Despite everything, I will never completely withdraw my love from him, nor will I let my loyalty waver.
My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
I will never break my promise, nor change the words I've spoken.
Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.
In my sacred purity, I've made a solemn promise - I will never deceive David.
His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.
His legacy will last eternally, and his reign will shine brightly like the sun in my presence.
It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.
Forever it will stand, as constant as the moon, a reliable testament in the heavens. Pause and reflect.
But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.
But you've pushed away and despised, you've been angry with your chosen one.
Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.
You've broken your promise to your servant, disrespecting him by tossing his crown to the dirt.
Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.
You've shattered his protective barriers; you've reduced his fortresses to rubble.
All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.
Everyone who passes by plunders him, and he has become an object of scorn to those around him.
Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
You've empowered his rivals, and filled his foes with joy.
Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.
You've dulled the sharpness of his sword and left him defenseless in the fight.
Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.
You've stripped him of his honor and thrown his reign into the dust.
The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.
You've cut short his youthful days and shrouded him in disgrace. Pause and reflect.
How long, LORD? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy wrath burn like fire?
Lord, when will you show yourself again? Will your anger blaze forever like a fire?
Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?
Remember, my time here is fleeting. Why then, have you created all of us seemingly without purpose?
What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.
Who among us, living, can escape death? Can anyone save their own soul from the grip of the grave? Pause and ponder.
Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, which thou swarest unto David in thy truth?
God, where is the love and kindness you once promised to David in your honesty?
Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people;
Lord, remember the scorn we, your servants, endure; feel the weight of the world's contempt that I carry in my heart.
Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O LORD; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.
Lord, your enemies have insulted you, they've mocked the path of your chosen one.
Blessed be the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen.
Forever grateful to the LORD. So be it, truly so be it.
