Psalm 72, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s son.
God, please grant the king your wisdom to judge and bless his son with your righteousness.
He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment.
He will fairly guide your people, and treat your less fortunate with justice.
The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness.
The mountains will shower tranquility upon humanity, and the small hills, through fairness, will offer comfort.
He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.
He will defend the cause of those in poverty, rescue the offspring of the destitute, and shatter the power of those who oppress.
They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.
As long as the sun and moon shine, people will respect and revere you, generation after generation.
He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.
He will arrive gently, like a soothing rain on freshly cut grass, blessing the earth with life-giving showers.
In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.
During his time, goodness will thrive and peace will overflow, lasting as long as the moon shines.
He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.
His reign will stretch from one ocean to another, and from the river to the farthest corners of the earth.
They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.
Those living in isolation will respect him; his foes will be humbled to the ground.
The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.
The rulers of distant lands and islands will come bearing gifts, while the monarchs of Sheba and Seba will present their offerings.
Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him.
Indeed, every ruler will humbly bow before him; every nation will be in his service.
For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper.
He will rescue those in need who call out; the poor and those without any support.
He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.
He will show compassion to the poor and vulnerable, and save the lives of those in need.
He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight.
He will rescue them from oppression and violence; their lives will be precious in his eyes.
And he shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: prayer also shall be made for him continually; and daily shall he be praised.
He will thrive, receiving the riches of Sheba. People will constantly pray for him and he will be celebrated every day.
There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.
A small amount of grain will grow even on the highest peaks; its bounty will sway like the mighty trees of Lebanon. The city dwellers will thrive, as abundant as the grass covering the earth.
His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.
His name will forever echo through time, shining as long as the sun itself. In his presence, people will find blessings, and every nation will recognize his blessedness.
Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.
Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, for He alone performs miracles.
And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.
May his magnificent name be forever cherished; may his splendor fill every corner of the earth. So be it, again and again.
The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.
Here end the prayers of David, Jesse's son.
