Psalm 37, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

Don't worry about those who do wrong, and don't envy those who cause harm.

2

For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

They'll quickly fade like grass, and wilt like fresh herbs.

3

Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

Believe wholeheartedly in God, act kindly; then you'll live peacefully on earth, and surely, you'll never go hungry.

4

Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Find joy in your relationship with God, and He will fulfill the deepest wishes of your heart.

5

Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Surrender your path to God, place your faith in Him, and He will make everything fall into place.

6

And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

He will reveal your goodness as clearly as the morning sun, and your fairness will shine bright like the midday sun.

7

Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

Find peace in God, and patiently trust in His timing. Don't stress over those who seem to succeed through wrong means.

8

Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

Let go of your anger, abandon your rage. Don't let negativity lead you to harm.

9

For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

Those who do wrong will be cut off, but those who patiently trust in God will inherit the earth.

10

For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

Soon the wicked will be gone; you'll look for them where they were, but they won't be there.

11

But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

Those who are humble will be blessed with the world; they will find joy in a wealth of tranquility.

12

The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.

The unjust schemes against the righteous, seething with anger and resentment.

13

The LORD shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.

The Lord will smile in amusement, for He knows his reckoning day is near.

14

The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.

The cruel have unsheathed their swords and aimed their arrows, intending to bring down the poor and needy and to kill those who live upright lives.

15

Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.

Their own swords will pierce their hearts, and their bows will be broken.

16

A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.

The little that a good person has is worth more than the vast wealth of many wicked ones.

17

For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the LORD upholdeth the righteous.

The wicked will lose their power, but God always supports those who are good.

18

The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.

God is aware of the righteous ones' journey, and their reward will be eternal.

19

They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

Even in the darkest hours, they will not feel disgrace; and during times of scarcity, they will still find contentment.

20

But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

Those who do evil will surely vanish, and those who oppose God will fade away like lamb's fat in the fire, disappearing like smoke.

21

The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.

Evil ones take and never return, but the good-hearted show kindness and share generously.

22

For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.

Those favored by Him will inherit the earth, while those He curses will be cut off.

23

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

A virtuous man's path is guided by God, and he finds joy in following it.

24

Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

Even if he stumbles, he won't be completely defeated, for God is there to support him.

25

I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

In my youth and now in my age, I've never witnessed the virtuous abandoned or their children pleading for food.

26

He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.

He is always kind, always giving; his descendants are indeed fortunate.

27

Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.

Turn away from wrongdoing, embrace kindness; and live a life of goodness eternally.

28

For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

God adores fairness and never abandons His faithful ones; they are eternally protected. But the offspring of the wicked will be cut off.

29

The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

Those who are just and good will be rewarded with a forever home on earth.

30

The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.

A good person speaks with wisdom, their words reflect fairness and understanding.

31

The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

God's guidance lives within him, ensuring he never loses his way.

32

The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.

Evil eyes stalk the good, yearning to destroy them.

33

The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

God will never leave the good in the power of the wicked, nor let them be condemned when they are put on trial.

34

Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.

Patiently trust in God, follow His path, and He will elevate you, granting you blessings. When those who do wrong are removed, you'll witness it.

35

I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.

I've witnessed the cruel thriving, expanding their influence like a lush, unending forest.

36

Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.

He was gone, just like that. I searched for him, but he was nowhere to be found.

37

Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.

Observe the man of integrity, admire the righteous one: for his journey concludes in tranquility.

38

But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.

Those who do wrong will face ruin together; the wicked will meet a swift and certain end.

39

But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble.

God is the savior of the good-hearted, providing them with strength when they face hardships.

40

And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

The Lord will stand by their side, rescuing them from the clutches of evil. Their faith in Him will be their salvation.
