Psalm 16, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.

Protect me, God, for I place all my faith in you.

2

O my soul, thou hast said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee;

Deep within me, I've declared to the Lord, "You are my Master. My virtues cannot compare to yours."

3

But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.

As for the holy people on earth, they are the truly wonderful ones, and in them is all my delight.

4

Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips.

Those who chase false gods will only find more pain. I refuse to honor their bloody rituals or even speak their names.

5

The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.

The Lord is the essence of my legacy and my life's sustenance; He steadfastly upholds my destiny.

6

The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.

I've been blessed with a beautiful life; indeed, my inheritance is rich and abundant.

7

I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

I am deeply grateful to the Lord, who guides me with wisdom. Even in the darkness of night, my heart continues to learn from Him.

8

I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

I always keep God in my thoughts and because He's right beside me, I stand firm and unshaken.

9

Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.

My heart is filled with joy, my soul is triumphant. Even my body rests peacefully, filled with hope.

10

For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

You won't abandon my soul to the realm of the dead, nor let your Holy One see decay.

11

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

You'll guide me on life's journey, and being with you fills me with immense joy; your unwavering support brings endless delight.
