Psalm 17, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.
Lord, please listen to my sincere plea for justice. Hear my cries and my heartfelt prayers.
Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal.
May your judgement emerge from your divine presence; may your gaze fall upon all that is fair and just.
Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
You've tested my heart, visited me in my darkest hours, and found no fault in me. I am determined not to speak ill.
Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer.
Guided by your divine words, I've stayed clear of harmful actions and destructive paths.
Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not.
Guide me along your path, so I don't lose my footing.
I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.
I've reached out to you, knowing you'll listen, O God. Please lean in and hear my heartfelt words.
Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.
Show your amazing love, O Savior, protect with your powerful hand those who trust in you from their enemies.
Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
Cherish me as your most precious treasure, protect me in the comforting embrace of your strength.
From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about.
Save me from those who torment me, from my lethal foes who constantly surround me.
They are inclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly.
They are trapped in their own arrogance, speaking with boastful tongues.
They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth;
They've surrounded us, tracking our every move, their eyes set on throwing us to the ground.
Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.
Just like a hungry lion stalking its prey, or a young lion hiding, ready to pounce.
Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword:
Rise up, O LORD, let him face defeat, bring him low: save me from the evil one, who is your weapon.
From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.
Lord, protect us from worldly men, those who only seek earthly pleasures. You fill their lives with hidden treasures and they have many children, leaving their wealth to their offspring.
As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.
In my purity, I will see your divine face. When I awaken, your image will bring me complete joy and contentment.
