Psalm 64, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy.

Listen to my plea, God, in my prayer: keep me safe from the terror of my foes.

2

Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:

Shield me from the hidden plots of the wicked; protect me from the uprising of those who do wrong.

3

Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:

They sharpen their words like swords, readying their tongues to launch hurtful words like arrows.

4

That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.

They secretly aim at the innocent, striking suddenly without fear.

5

They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them?

They fuel each other's wicked plans, secretly plotting traps, arrogantly believing they're unseen.

6

They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep.

They tirelessly seek out wrongdoings, their search is thorough and relentless. Their thoughts and hearts are profoundly complex.

7

But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded.

God will swiftly strike them with an unseen blow, leaving them unexpectedly hurt.

8

So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away.

Their own words will be their downfall, causing everyone who witnesses it to run away in fear.

9

And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing.

Everyone will feel awe and speak of God's deeds, for they will thoughtfully acknowledge His actions.

10

The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.

Those who are good will find joy in God, placing their faith in Him. Every honest heart will bask in His glory.
