Psalm 27, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
God is my guiding light and my savior; who should I be scared of? God is the power that fuels my life; who should intimidate me?
When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
When those who wished me harm, even my enemies, tried to bring me down, they tripped and failed.
Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
Even if armies surround me, I won't be scared. Even if conflict arises, I'll stand strong and fearless.
One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
My heart yearns for one thing from God, a desire I'll tirelessly pursue; to spend my entire life in His divine presence, basking in His breathtaking beauty and seeking wisdom in His sacred sanctuary.
For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
When times get tough, He will shelter me in His sacred space. He will hide me in His secret place and place me securely on a solid ground.
And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
Now, I rise above those who oppose me; I will celebrate in His presence with pure joy. I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.
Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
Listen, Lord, to my desperate plea. Show me your compassion and respond to my call.
When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.
When you whispered, "Search for me," my heart instantly replied, "I will seek you, my Lord."
Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
Don't turn away from me, don't let your anger push me aside. You've always been there for me; don't abandon me now, my saving God.
When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.
Even if my parents abandon me, God will always embrace me.
Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.
Guide me, O Lord, show me your path, let it be clear and simple, for I am surrounded by foes.
Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
Please don't let my enemies control my fate, for I'm surrounded by deceitful accusers and those who thrive on cruelty.
I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
I would have lost hope, if I hadn't trusted in witnessing the Lord's kindness in this world.
Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
Trust in God, stay brave and hopeful, for He will empower your heart. Be patient and keep faith in God.
