Psalm 141, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
Lord, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee.
Lord, I call out to you urgently; please hurry to me. Listen to my voice when I reach out to you in desperation.
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
May my prayers reach you like a sweet fragrance, and my raised hands be like the evening's offering.
Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.
Lord, guide my words and guard my lips.
Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.
Don't let my heart be drawn to evil or engage in wicked deeds with those who are sinful. Keep me from partaking in their tempting pleasures.
Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.
If a good person corrects me, I'll see it as a kindness. If they critique me, it'll be like soothing oil, not a blow to my pride. Even in their struggles, I'll keep them in my prayers.
When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.
When their leaders are thrown down onto the rocks, people will listen to my words, for they are pleasant.
Our bones are scattered at the grave’s mouth, as when one cutteth and cleaveth wood upon the earth.
Our bones lie scattered at the edge of the grave, just like chopped wood strewn across the ground.
But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.
My gaze is fixed on you, O Lord, my God. I place all my trust in you; please, never abandon me.
Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity.
Protect me from the traps set by those who wish me harm, and the deceit of those who do evil.
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, whilst that I withal escape.
May those who choose evil be caught in their own traps, while I find my way to safety.
