Psalm 31, verse by verse

Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.

1

In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.

In you, my Lord, I place all my faith; may I never feel disgrace: save me through your pure goodness.

2

Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.

Listen closely to my pleas; rescue me quickly. Be my solid refuge, my protective fortress to keep me safe.

3

For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.

You are my solid ground, my safe haven. So, for the sake of your name, guide me and show me the way.

4

Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.

Rescue me from the hidden traps set for me, for you are my source of power and courage.

5

Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

I entrust my soul to you, feeling your love and truth, knowing you have saved me, my God.

6

I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD.

I despise those who cherish deceitful illusions, but my faith remains firm in the Lord.

7

I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;

I'll overflow with joy and gratitude for your kindness, for you've seen my struggles and understood my pain during tough times.

8

And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.

You didn't abandon me to my foes; instead, you gave me freedom and space to move.

9

Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.

Please, Lord, show me compassion, for I am overwhelmed with sorrow. My eyes are filled with tears, and my heart and body are consumed by distress.

10

For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.

My days are filled with sorrow, my years with heavy sighs. My strength is fading due to my wrongdoings, and I feel it deep in my bones.

11

I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.

All my enemies, especially my neighbors, looked down on me. My presence terrified even my friends, causing them to run away when they saw me.

12

I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.

I feel as overlooked as someone long passed away; I feel as shattered as a broken pot.

13

For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.

I've heard the hurtful rumors spread by many, fear surrounding me from all sides. They plotted against me, schemed to end my life.

14

But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God.

With unwavering faith in you, my Lord, I declared, "You are my God."

15

My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.

My life is in your control; save me from those who wish me harm and those who torment me.

16

Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies’ sake.

Let your love light up my life, Lord. Rescue me, because of your kindness.

17

Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.

Lord, don't let me feel shame, for I've reached out to you. Let those who do wrong feel this shame, and let their voices be stilled in death.

18

Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

May those who spread falsehoods be silenced; those who arrogantly and scornfully speak ill of the good and just.

19

Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!

Oh, the depth of your kindness, saved for those who respect you! You've crafted it for those who believe in you, even in the face of others.

20

Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

You will protect them, hidden in your loving presence, safe from human arrogance. You will shield them in a peaceful sanctuary, away from the chaos of harmful words.

21

Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.

Praise the Lord! He has shown me His incredible love, even when I was shut in a fortified city under siege.

22

For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.

In my panic, I felt lost from your sight. But even then, you heard my desperate pleas when I called out to you.

23

O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

Adore God, all you who are devoted to Him. For He protects those who are loyal, and He pays back in full those who act with pride in their hearts.

24

Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.

Stay brave, for God will fortify your spirit, especially those who place their hope in Him.
