Psalm 97, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.
God rules supreme; let our world celebrate; let every island burst with joy.
Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.
He is surrounded by mystery and shadows, yet his reign is built on fairness and truth.
A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about.
His presence ignites a blaze, engulfing and consuming all who oppose him.
His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled.
His flashes of light illuminated the world, causing the earth to shudder in awe.
The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.
In the awe-inspiring presence of the Lord, the mighty hills dissolved as if they were mere wax, affirming His dominion over all the earth.
The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.
The sky proclaims His fairness, and everyone witnesses His magnificent splendor.
Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all ye gods.
May all who worship idols and take pride in false gods be put to shame. Let all divine beings bow down and honor the one true God.
Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O LORD.
Zion felt joy, and her heart sang; Judah's daughters danced in delight, celebrating your wise decisions, O LORD.
For thou, LORD, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods.
You, Lord, are the highest power on earth, far superior to any other deity.
Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.
If you adore God, despise all that's wicked. He safeguards the spirits of his devoted ones, rescuing them from the clutches of evil.
Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
Those who are good are blessed with enlightenment, and those with pure hearts are gifted with joy.
Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
Celebrate with joy in your heart for the Lord, you good souls; and feel gratitude when you recall His pure goodness.
