Psalm 50, verse by verse
Each verse is given twice: first in the King James Version, then in the World Bible Guide plain reading.
The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.
The powerful God, our Lord, has spoken, reaching out to the world from dawn to dusk.
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.
From the heart of Zion, in all its stunning beauty, God's radiant light has emerged.
Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.
Our God will arrive, not in silence, but with a roar. A consuming fire will blaze before Him, and a fierce storm will rage around Him.
He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.
He will call out to the skies and the earth, so that he may judge his people.
Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
Call together my faithful ones, those who made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.
The skies will echo with His fairness, for God Himself is the ultimate judge. Pause and reflect.
Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God.
Listen, my people, I need to talk; Israel, I must bear witness against you: I am your God, the only one.
I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.
I won't criticize you for your sacrifices or constant offerings to me.
I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds.
I won't take any oxen from your home, nor goats from your pens.
For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
Every creature in the woods and every cow on countless hills, they all belong to me.
I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.
I am familiar with every bird in the mountains, and I claim all the wild animals in the fields as my own.
If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
Even if I were starving, I wouldn't ask you for help, because everything in this world belongs to me.
Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
Would I really feast on bull meat or sip on goat's blood?
Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:
Express your gratitude to God sincerely; fulfill your promises to the Almighty.
And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
Reach out to me when you're lost in hardship; I'll rescue you, and in return, you'll sing my praises.
But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
God questions the wicked, "Why do you speak of my laws and promises when you don't live by them?"
Seeing thou hatest instruction, and casteth my words behind thee.
You despise guidance and ignore my teachings.
When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.
When you saw a thief, you agreed with him, and you shared in the sins of adulterers.
Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.
You use your words for harm, and your speech is full of lies.
Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother’s son.
You sit and talk badly about your own sibling; you spread lies about your own mother's child.
These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.
You've done all these things, thinking I was just like you, while I remained silent. But now, I will correct you and make everything clear right before your eyes.
Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.
Reflect on this, you who ignore God, or I will tear you to pieces, and there will be no one to rescue you.
Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.
Whoever praises me, honors me deeply. And to those who lead their lives with integrity, I will reveal God's saving grace.
